Corner Kick: Meadville

Meadville Bulldogs
Boys
Coach (season): Bob Stein (1st season)
2010 overall record: 8-7-3
2010 region record (place): 2-5-1 (fourth)
2010 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Brandon Hartnett, John Murphree
Top returning players: Caleb Stein, Austin Price, Evan Young, Jalen Gray, Kassel Weber, Mike Weston, Ben Wyman, Logan Mears, Nick Steinbeck
Assistant coach: Antonio Kawata
Outlook: Meadville will look for new direction this fall under first-year coach Bob Stein. Stein brings in a new system and is hoping to turn the program around and get the Bulldogs into the District 10 playoffs. Meadville will have to replace a few standouts in Brandon Hartnett and John Murphree, both named to the all-region second team on defense. The Bulldogs have plenty of experience back aside from those two. Logan Mears returns after a solid junior season in goal, for which he was named all-region. Also back from the all-region second team are Mike Weston and Caleb Stein on offense. Austin Price, Evan Young, Jalen Gray, Kassel Weber, Ben Wyman, and Nick Steinbeck bring the Bulldogs experience and depth back this fall. Meadville has several big matches to worry about this fall but the Bulldogs will likely have to beat either McDowell or Cathedral Prep twice to get into the postseason.

Girls
Coach (season): Elyse Kebert (1st season)
2010 overall record: 11-9-0
2010 region record (place): 5-3-0 (tied for second)
2010 playoff results: Lost 5-0 to McDowell in the District 10 Class AAA championship.
Top players lost: Adrian Work, Erin Chandler
Top returning players: Ashton Simonette, Shelby Proctor, Olivia Miller
Assistant coach: Laura Simonette
Outlook: Meadville made a run to the District 10 Class AAA championship match last season before running into McDowell. The Bulldogs will be looking to match that run and win the D-10 title this fall under new head coach Elyse Kebert. Kebert is starting over this season and will need to replace goalkeeper Adrian Work and defender Erin Chandler. The Bulldogs will have several talented players back, including all-region second-team selections Aston Simonette, a two-time all-region pick, and Shelby Proctor. Meadville will look to build chemistry in camp and develop some of the underclassmen. The Bulldogs will get two chances at McDowell during the regular season and will likely take on the Trojans a third time in the postseason.
