Sharpsville Blue Devils
Boys
Coach: Carmen Russo
2010 overall record: 2-15-1
2010 region record (place): 0-6-0 (fourth)
2010 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Levi Bailey, Tyler Womer, Xavier Ranellie
Top returning players: Matt Taylor, Derek Bibler, Erik Johnson, Trevor Smith, Zach Patterson, Jimmy Offie
Outlook: Sharpsville played in a rough region last year and will have to try and rebuild again this fall. The Blue Devils should be experienced with only three seniors gone to graduation. Levi Bailey and Xavier Ranellie were named all-region last year while classmate Tyler Womer is also gone. Sharpsville has a solid group back, including second-team defender Trevor Smith. Also returning are Matt Taylor, Derek Bibler, Erik Johnson, Zach Patterson and Jimmy Offie. If this year holds true like the past, there may only be one playoff spot available in Region 1 to the region champion. The Blue Devils haven’t won a region match in a few years but they need to turn things around this fall if they want to continue their season into November.

Girls
Coach (season, record): Amber Matters (2nd season, 1-15)
2010 overall record: 1-15-0
2010 region record (place): 0-6-0 (fourth)
2010 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top player lost: Shannon Moss
Top returning players: Natalie Henwood, Megan Whalen, Darci Shuttleworth, Chandli Hasenplug
Assistant coach: Dave Shuttleworth
Outlook: Sharpsville had a tough time in Region 2 last fall but with nearly everyone back, the Blue Darlings could surprise a few teams. The only senior to graduate was Shannon Moss and her talents on defense will need to be replaced. Megan Whalen returns in goal after a second-team all-region sophomore year, along with second-team defender Natalie Henwood. Also back are leading scorer Darci Shuttleworth and second-leading scorer Chandli Hasenplug. Coach Amber Matters is also looking for some contributions from the underclassmen as the freshman class is bolstering the program with five players. Matters is looking for Sharpsville to play with more intensity and to continue the Blue Devils’ high sportsmanship, which has resulted in awards.
