Fall Fastbreak – Fairview

Fairview Tigers
Boys
Coach (season, record): Keith Nies (11th season, 165-90)
2010-11 overall record: 15-10
2010-11 region record (place): 7-3 (tied for second)
2010-11 playoff results: Defeated Cambridge Springs 47-42 and lost to Sharpsville (41-38) and Mercyhurst Prep (40-36) in the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Jason Treverton, Michael Sundberg, Charlie Levin, Brandon Sharp
Top returning players: Jordan Litschinn, Mickey Ferrare
Assistant coaches: Greg Hoffman, Chris Moore, Niko Simon
Outlook: Fairview might struggle early this season but the Tigers could develop into a contender. Fairview is very young with two seniors and the possibility of several freshmen competing for playing time in camp. The Tigers lost several important seniors, including Jason Treverton, Michael Sundberg, Charlie Levin and Brandon Sharp. Fairview returns Jordan Litschinn and Mickey Ferrare to provide senior leadership with several juniors in the mix as well. Dan Carey, Kenny McGrain, Andrew Gibson, Shannon Jackson and Austin Fiedler were standouts for the junior varsity last year and will look to make the transition to varsity this season. Andy Niland and Ben Kocan are two freshmen that could see some varsity playing time this year. The Tigers have another loaded non-region schedule this winter to try and improve as the season goes on. The two dates circled for Fairview are Jan. 17 and Feb. 7 against rival Mercyhurst Prep. If The Tigers can develop as a team as the season goes on, they can be an interesting team to keep an eye on in the postseason.

Girls
Coach (season, record): Lance Brown (1st season at Fairview, 5th season overall, 52-43)
2010-11 overall record: 7-15
2010-11 region record (place): 3-11 (seventh)
2010-11 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AAA playoffs.
Top players lost: Maggie Vizzini, Emily Lim, Emily Vizzini, Kelly Heher, Justine Lackey, Erin Stroup
Top returning players: Corrinne Pawlowski, Kelsey Everhart, Katie Sundberg, Kathryn Susko
Assistant coaches: Laura Szkotnicki, Kellee Beresik
Outlook: Fairview went through some changes in the offseason with the hiring of Lance Brown. Brown saw success in a four-year stint at Strong Vincent, including a District 10 Class AAAA championship. Brown brings a new system to the Tigers with the ultimate goal of making the District 10 playoffs. Fairview lost Maggie Vizzini, Emily Vizzini, Emily Lim, Kelly Heher, Justin Lackey and Erin Stroup to graduation, basically giving the Tigers no experience back this winter. Seniors Corrinne Pawlowski and Kelsey Everhart will be counted on as leaders along with junior Kathryn Susko and sophomore Katie Sundberg. The Tigers will need contributions from the younger players this winter to have success in a tough region. Allison Boncella, Jessica Brinling and Nia Clark could make strides this year on the varsity and help Fairview make the postseason.
