Farrell Steelers
Boys
Coach (season, record): Roland Shannonhouse (9th season, 151-57)
2010-11 overall record: 12-11
2010-11 region record (place): 10-6 (fourth)
2010-11 playoff results: Lost 70-52 to East in the first round of the District 10 Class AAA playoffs.
Top players lost: Pat Horton, Robert Trudo
Top returning players: Arlen Brewer, Vernon Stewart, Ramon Pierce
Assistant coaches: Tim Oden, Donald Campbell, Dennis Simmons
Outlook: Farrell lost a lot of production in the offseason with the graduation of Robert Trudo and Patrick Horton. The duo put up tremendous numbers last season and the Steelers will need numerous players to step up this season to replace them. Horton was a first-team all-region selection as well as the Region 6 Player of the Year. The Steelers turn to Arlen Brewer, Vernon Stewart and Ramon Pierce who return this season, while Ike Jones and Tyrone Archie will look to contribute on the varsity level this season. Farrell’s region can be brutal especially with rival Sharon on the way up. The Steelers will play meaningful basketball games almost every time they step onto the floor, which could be troublesome for a young team. Farrell will need to gain some chemistry and experience early in the season to keep playing a high level this winter.

2010-11 overall record: 13-9
2010-11 region record (place): 7-3 (second)
2010-11 playoff results: Defeated Conneaut Valley (49-40) and Saegertown (39-33) in the District 10 Class A playoffs before falling to Kennedy Catholic 53-35 in the D-10 championship. Lost 59-44 to Fort Cherry in the PIAA first round.
Top players lost: None
Top returning players: Marissa Carry, Tyra Robinson, Johntae Scott, Bria Gambill
Assistant coach: Tiffany Holden
Outlook: The Farrell-Kennedy Catholic rivalry should be intense once again this winter. Both teams return almost everyone from last year which should make things interesting. Marissa Carry, a former Kennedy student, is a dominant player for Farrell. She went over 1,000 points last season and is one of the best players in District 10. She leads an experienced group of Steelerettes, including Tyra Robinson, Johntae Scott and Bria Gambill. Farrell will look to the lower levels for some depth this season. Janee Avery, Whitney Murray and Jarissa Sharper could all contribute for the Steelerettes. Farrell’s showdowns with Kennedy are on Jan. 9 and Feb. 9 this winter but don’t be surprised if the two rivals meet again for the District 10 Class A championship.
