Maplewood Tigers
Boys
Coach (season, record): Jeremy Peterson (2nd season, 5-17)
2010-11 overall record: 5-17
2010-11 region record (place): 3-5 (fourth)
2010-11 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Jacob Snyder, Daishawn Mewborn, Jacob Potts
Top returning players: Michael Davis, Camron Kramer
Assistant coaches: Dave Gjovik, Jason Ruggeiro, Harry Zurasky
Outlook: Maplewood should be strong at the guard position this year. The Tigers will have to rely on their guards for most of the winter after losing size in Jacob Snyder and Jacob Potts to graduation. Daishawn Mewborn also graduated, leaving some big shoes to fill for second-year coach Jeremy Peterson. Senior Michael Davis is back after averaging 8 points per game, while classmate Camron Kramer also returns after scoring 6 points per game last year. The Tigers play in a tough region and rebuilding won’t be easy this winter. Maplewood will have to rely on ball control and speed to stay in games this year and try to develop some forwards during camp.

Girls
Coach (season, record): Ben Mangus (2nd season, 6-16)
2010-11 overall record: 6-16
2010-11 region record (place): 4-10 (sixth)
2010-11 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Emily Ray, Emily Plyler, Kaitlynn Howard, Jill Nicols
Top returning players: Mary Fultz, Emily Merritt, Ashley Myers, Ashley Miller
Assistant coaches: Kevin Turner, Matt Mangus, Ashley Balas
Outlook: Maplewood might go through some growing pains this year with the graduation of several key players. Emily Ray, Emily Plyler, Kaitlynn Howard and Jill Nicols have graduated, leaving some big holes for the Tigers. Emily Merritt is the only returning starter from last year, while Mary Fultz, Ashley Myers and Ashley Miller are returning lettermen. Maplewood is young and inexperienced but the Tigers have more athletic talent this season than they’ve had recently. Elizabeth Miller, Kendra Turner, Taylor Smith and Kaylee Krepps could take the next step this season and have an impact at the varsity level. With powerhouses like Villa Maria and Girard in their region, the Tigers shouldn’t be concerned about their record this season but more focused on developing the younger players and preparing for the future.
