Cathedral Prep’s baseball team and its fans might have something bigger to fret about than Harriton going into Monday’s PIAA Class AAA semifinal.

The Ramblers (21-3) and the District 1 Rams (16-8) are scheduled to play at 4 p.m. at Governor’s Park in Bellefonte. Scheduled is the key word, given the weather report for the State College area at that time.

Temperatures for the first pitch are projected to be in the low 70s, according to the National Weather Service. However, there’s a 30 percent chance of showers, similar to what Erie experienced Sunday.

If Prep and Harriton are postponed, the game would be made up Tuesday at a time to be determined. That would give the winner one less day to prepare for the PIAA Class AAA baseball final.

All four state championship games will take place Friday at Penn State University’s Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The 6 p.m. Class AAA final rounds out the action.

About the only good thing to come out of Monday’s postponed PIAA baseball doubleheader at Jerry Uht Park is that the winners already know who they’ll take on in Thursday’s quarterfinal round.

An early afternoon storm flooded the field’s dugouts, which led to games involving Class AA Franklin and Class AAA Cathedral Prep to be called off until today. The 18-2 Knights and 15-6 Seton-LaSalle will open at 3:30 p.m., followed by the 19-3 Ramblers and 15-5 West Mifflin at 6.

District 6 power Central (22-0) awaits the winner of today’s first game. The Dragons remained perfect via Monday’s 4-1 Class AA victory over Quaker Valley before a packed crowd at Altoona’s Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Punxsutawney (15-5) edged West Allegheny 3-2 in a Class AAA first-rounder at Pullman Park in Butler. Winners of the last 11 District 9 titles, the Chucks’ victory represented one of three over a WPIAL top seed during Monday’s action.
