Bernadette Prichard

Prichard, a freshman, has quickly become the most dominant female runner in District 10.

Prichard has turned her attention to Saturday’s PIAA championships in Hershey, where she will be one of the favorites in the Class AA competition.

She’ll join with teammates Grace Trucilla, Alison Carson, Claire Brown, Catie Cacchione, Kim Demjenanko and Rebecca Easly in an effort to win a state title this weekend.

Alison Cooney

Alison Cooney, a junior, rescued Villa Maria’s water polo season Saturday and helped the Victors’ strong senior class clinch its second consecutive trip to the state tournament.

Cooney scored five goals, including three in overtime, to lead Villa to a 10-7 win over archrival McDowell in a Western Conference tournament
first-round game at North Allegheny High School. That prolonged the Victors’ season and gave them a berth in the state tournament, which opens Friday at Cumberland Valley High School.

Cooney was just warming up Saturday, though. She also scored the winning goal at the buzzer in a 12-11 semifinal win over Cumberland Valley.

The Victors eventually claimed second place in the tournament and earned a No. 2 seed for the state tourney.

She is the third Villa water polo player to win the Breakout Fall Athlete of the Week vote this fall. Cooney follows Sarah Latzo and Christine Uht.
