Fans can vote for the Breakout Team of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Friday at 4:59 p.m. with the winner being featured Sunday in the Erie Times-News. Fans are encouraged to submit nominations of teams by Tuesday night and coaches are encouraged to call in every result throughout the season.
Strong Vincent boys basketball – The Colonels established their grip on Region 8 with a thrilling 60-59 win over Cathedral Prep on Monday. The Colonels are in sole possession of first place with four region games left.
Franklin boys basketball - The Knights remained undefeated Tuesday with a convincing 55-41 win over Hickory. Franklin is 9-0 and is emerging as a top team in Class AAA.
General McLane boys basketball – The Lancers moved to 10-0 Tuesday with a 60-46 win over Warren. McLane is 5-0 in region play and looks like a favorite to return to the D-10 Class AAA championship game.
Franklin girls basketball – The Knights beat Hickory 60-50 in an important region before routing Grove City. Franklin is 8-0 and may not lose a game until the playoffs.
Mercyhurst Prep girls basketball – The Lakers moved to 9-0 with a 60-43 win over General McLane. Mercyhurst had Kayla Wilwohl return from injury and is starting to come together.
Reynolds wrestling – The Raiders moved to 9-0 on the season with a five-match sweep in the Region 1 duals on Saturday. Reynolds is 7-0 in region matches and is two wins from locking up another region title.
Greenville wrestling – The Trojans have locked up a share of the Region 2 title and can claim the region title outright tonight against Commodore Perry.
McDowell wrestling – The Trojans won the Tool City tournament on Saturday with 216.5 points, well ahead of Boiling Sptings (192.5) and DuBois (161.5).
Fort LeBoeuf wrestling – The Bison are not only undefeated in duals, but they took home the Bison Brawl championship on Saturday. LeBoeuf finished with 213 points while Butler had 205.5.
Fairview swimming/diving – The Tigers swept North East to move to 4-0 on the season.
McDowell swimming/diving - The Trojans are 5-0 after sweeping Warren on Monday.
