Taylor Pletz is emerging as the next standout distance runner for a strong Mercyhurst Prep program.
Pletz, a freshman, won the 800 and 1,600 at the North East Invitational, hours after competing in the Baldwin Invitational the night before. She ran the 800 in
2 minutes, 28.59 seconds and was on pace to set a meet record before a strong wind slowed her down in the final 100 meters. She ran the 1,600 in 5:30.84 to earn her second event win.
She is a runner to keep an eye on at next week’s District 10 Class AA championship meet.
