Prep 2nd, Romeo 4th in PIAA golf

YORK — Defending champion Cathedral Prep trails Greater Latrobe by three strokes after the first round of play Monday in the PIAA Championships at Heritage Hills Resort.

The Ramblers, led by junior Mike Kloecker’s 5-over-par 76, totaled 313 in their bid to repeat as team champions.

McDowell junior Austin Romeo is tied for fourth in individual play with an even-par 71, two shots behind the leaders.

The McDowell girls team, which finished third in 2008, is third after the first round with a 367 total, 11 shots behind leader Greater Latrobe.

Sophomore Karlie Zabrosky led the Trojans with an 11-over-par 83, and is tied for 14th place in the individual competition.

Play concludes Tuesday with 18 holes.
