Youngsville Eagles
Coach (season): Beverly Fox (1st season)
2011 overall record: 4-9
2011 region record (place): 3-9 (sixth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class A playoffs.
Top players lost: Amber Fox, Savanna Schoedel, Arielle Clark
Top returning players: Abbey McLaughlin, Kennedy Cratty
Assistant coach: Kodee Jeritza
Outlook: Youngsville is going in a new direction this fall with a new coach in Beverly Fox and a new region. The Eagles have several holes to fill after the graduation of Amber Fox, Savanna Schoedel and Arielle Clark. Schoedel was voted to the all-region second team as a middle hitter last season and will be tough to replace. The Eagles will turn to senior Abbey McLaughlin and sophomore Kennedy Cratty for leadership this fall. McLaughlin, an outside hitter, recorded 116 kills and 125 digs last year and Cratty had 71 kills. The two could be strong leaders this season while the Eagles look for contributions from Aubree Hendrickson, a sophomore setter. Youngsville is in a new region this season with powerhouses Cochranton, Maplewood and Saegertown. The Eagles won’t be able to rebuild their program overnight but they can make strides this fall to build toward the future.

West Middlesex Big Reds
Coach (season, record): Kylene Hoch (4th season, 15-33)
2011 overall record: 10-8
2011 region record (place): 9-5 (third)
2011 playoff results: Qualified for the District 10 Class A playoffs and went 1-2 in pool play.
Top players lost: Dani Monaco, Sierra Hall
Top returning players: Allison Mild, Shannon Kuritz, Jade Kroesen, Tori Roberts, Aerial Pratt
Assistant coach: Markie Negrea
Outlook: West Middlesex will look to play more consistent volleyball this season. The Big Reds have been up and down too much over the past few years and will need to start stringing together quality matches in order to turn the program around. Middlesex will have to replace leader and all-region first-team middle hitter Dani Monaco. The Big Reds will turn to seniors Allison Mild, Shannon Kuritz and Jade Kroesen for leadership. Juniors Tori Roberts and Aerial Pratt could also be impact players this season. Marissa Pursel and Megan Hazlett could be impact players right away this fall as new players to the varsity level. Coach Kylene Hoch is looking for several players to step up as leaders this season as the Big Reds face a brutal region schedule. Middlesex will need consistent play and help from the lower levels to contend for a playoff spot.

Warren Dragons
Coach (season, record): Mike Dolan (6th season, 51-29)
2011 overall record: 7-7
2011 region record (place): 7-5 (third)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top player lost: Rachel Hasselman
Top returning players: Rachel Lasecki, Valerie Latimer, Teah Bines, McKenzie Merenick
Assistant coaches: None
Outlook: Warren returns a strong group this season. The Dragons have almost their entire starting lineup back this fall and could be one of the most experienced teams in District 10. Warren graduated Rachel Hasselman but everyone else is back. The Dragons won’t have any seniors on the team, making them a dangerous team for the next two years. Leading hitters Valerie Latimer and Rachel Lasecki are back this season. Lasecki was voted to the all-region second team as an outside hitter last fall. Teah Bines is back at setter and McKenzie Merenick at defensive specialist. The Dragons will need to play well on defense and move the ball in order to compete with a brutal region. With Corry and Conneaut now on the schedule, the Dragons will need to rely on their experience to stay competitive.

Villa Maria Victors
Coach (season): Kristy Jamison (1st season)
2011 overall record: 5-8
2011 region record (place): 5-7 (tied for fourth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top player lost: Melanie Schroeck
Top returning players: Melissa Mischler, Jennie Fustine, Madison Easly, Kathryn Mischler, Megan Cooper
Assistant coach: Stefanie Donor
Outlook: Villa Maria is looking to go in a new direction this fall under new head coach Kristy Jamison. The Victors will have to replace libero Melanie Schroeck but they return seniors Melissa Mischler, Jennie Fustine and Madison Easly. Mischler is a four-year player while Fustine and Easly have started the past two years. Juniors Kathryn Mischler and Megan Cooper saw plenty of playing time last season and could be impact players this fall. Senior Shantell Herrmann, a basketball player, decided to play this season and could be an instant standout hitter at 6 feet, 1 inch. Villa is still looking to break through against powerhouses Harbor Creek and McDowell and might have the talent to stay competitive with the Huskies and Trojans. The Victors’ success might depend on contributions from the underclassmen and how quickly the team adapts to a new system and a new coach.
