Results of the overall leaders and District 10 entrants from Saturday’s PIAA Class AA swimming and diving meet at Bucknell University in Lewisburg. Because the media center isn’t immediately adjacent to Kinney Natatorium, updates will only be provided at the end of each session. However, if a district entrant finishes first or second, an attempt will be made to post that result as soon as possible.

FAIRVIEW JUNIOR ROBERT SIKATZKI, AN EXCHANGE STUDENT FROM GERMANY, WAS VOTED THE BOYS SWIMMER OF THE MEET.

THE DISTRICT 10 TRIO OF FAIRVIEW’S ROBERT SIKATZKI (49.56), MERCYHURST PREP’S GRIFFIN SCHAETZLE (50.80) AND CORRY’S BRENT BENEDICT (51.14) CLAIMED THE TOP THREE MEDAL SPOTS IN THE 100-YARD BACKSTROKE. IT WAS THE SECOND GOLD MEDAL OF THE MEET FOR SIKATZKI, A GERMAN EXCHANGE STUDENT.

FRANKLIN’S PHIL EMERSON HAS REPEATED AS THE PIAA CLASS AA BOYS CHAMPION IN THE 100-YARD FREESTYLE. EMERSON TOUCHED THE WALL IN 45.63 SECONDS TO THE 45.97 OF SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP’S NATHAN SMITH.

WILMINGTON SOPHOMORE LAUREN BARBER WON THE GIRLS 100-YARD BREASTSTROKE FINAL IN A TIME OF 1 MINUTE, 2.63 SECONDS. HER TIME WAS .08 OF A SECOND FROM TYING THE PIAA RECORD.

The first edition of the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association rankings are out with three District 10 teams in the top 10 of their respective classes. Defending D-10 Class AA champion Fort LeBoeuf is No. 6, while No. 4 Sharpsville and No. 10 Maplewood are in the Class A rankings. Fort LeBoeuf will host a tip-off tournament Saturday, while Sharpsville and Maplewood begin the 2012 season next week.

The Fort LeBoeuf softball team will play District 3 third-place team Big Spring in the PIAA Class AAA quarterfinals Thursday at noon at Brockway High School.

Big Spring beat District 6 champion Bellefonte 1-0 Tuesday to advance.

Fort LeBoeuf defeated Elizabeth Forward 3-2 Monday in the first round.

More than 5,500 votes were cast this week as fans showed up in a big way. McDowell’s Ryan Platz won the baseball poll, while fellow Trojan Brian Rubin secured the spring athlete poll. Mercyhurst Prep power hitter Chelsea Czerwinski won the softball poll, but the most interesting races came in track and field. Strong Vincent’s Josh Natalie had a strong run Tuesday to overtake Central Tech’s Greg Miaczynski in the boys poll. On the girls’ side, Sophie Mazza of Harbor Creek led for most of the voting period but Fort LeBoeuf’s Brittany Cook took over in the final hour to win the poll.
