HERSHEY – However he ends up faring, Cambridge Springs senior Shawn Reynolds made history just by competing in Thursday’s PIAA Class AA wrestling tournament.
Reynolds is the first Blue Devil ever to qualify twice for the meet, according to coach Jeff Hiner. The 195-pounder was shut out 9-0 in his first-round match against Boiling Springs’ Logan Murphy, but stayed alive in the consolation bracket when he pinned David Tirpak of Northwestern Lehigh in 4 minutes, 46 seconds.
Now 33-8 overall, Reynolds awaits Friday’s championship quarterfinal loser between Bloomsburg’s Ryan Longenberger and Derek Wolford of Hanover. If he wins that match, he’ll be guaranteed a medal and a spot on the state podium.

The district had three AA wrestlers maintain perfect records Thursday. Each is from Mercer County.
Sharon’s Jarray Norris was the first. Norris moved to 40-0 at 120 with an exciting 15-14 decision over Palmerton’s Sam Oberlander.
Cody Copeland is now 42-0 with another first-period pin that topped any of his countless others. The Greenville senior only needed eight seconds – yes, eight seconds — to fell South Fayette freshman Jared Walker at 152.
Records were unable to be immediately found to determine if that’s a tournament record.
Grove City star Wes Phipps continued to make his future Penn State teammates happy with a 3:28 pin of Tyrone’s Jared Beckwith at 182. Phipps takes a 37-0 mark into Friday’s quarters.
