Jason Rankin, who spent the past three years as the New Castle girls basketball coach, is expected to be named to the new Sharon boys coach tonight. The Hurricanes went 59-19 in his three years, including one WPIAL Class AAA championship.
Rankin told the New Castle News that his relationship with Sharon Superintendent John Sarandrea, a former New Castle coach, had a lot to do with his decision. “It was never my intention to leave New Castle, but this was just such a great opportunity,” Rankin told the New Castle News. “I have familiarity with John there and I felt comfortable with everyone I met during the interview process.”
