Fans can vote for the Breakout Soccer Players of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. with the winner being featured in Thursday’s edition of the Erie Times-News. Nominations are based on results called into the Erie Times-News. Fans are encouraged to submit nominations of players by Saturday night and coaches are encouraged to call in every result throughout the season. Players who have won the award this season are no longer eligible.
Boys
Dez Cifelli, McDowell – Collected a hat trick to lead the Trojans to a 5-1 win over Strong Vincent.
Peter Keim, General McLane – Scored four times to lead the Lancers to a 4-1 win over Central Tech. He also scored once in a 4-1 win over Harbor Creek. Keim scored as time expired on Saturday to help McLane beat Slippery Rock 2-1.
Kevin Hodgkins, Hickory – Had two goals to continue his impressive season with a 4-1 win over Commodore Perry. He then scored three times in a 9-0 win over Conneaut Valley.
Greg Berdis, Fairview – Scored three times to lead the Tigers to a 10-0 win over Iroquois. Berdis then scored three times in an 8-0 win over Seneca.
Colton Bly, Bradford – Collected three goals in an 8-0 win over Oil City.
Josh Eby, North East – Had another shutout as the red-hot Grapepickers beat Fort LeBoeuf 2-0. Eby had seven shutouts in North East’s past eight matches.
Jose Abdala, Mercyhurst Prep – Scored three times to help the Lakers knock off the defending WPIAL Class AAA champion Peters Township 5-1.
Will Cole, Eisenhower – Cole continued his strong season with a crucial 1-0 shutout over Iroquois. The Knights’ win kept them in the playoff race heading into an important match with Mercyhurst Prep later this week.
Salim Khalife, Saegertown – Scored twice to lead the Panthers to an important 2-0 win over Girard.
Elongo Kimwanga, East – Kimwanga scored with less than three minutes left in overtime to give the Warriors a 3-2 win over Meadville and avoid a tie in region play.
Girls
Kristin Markiewicz, Harbor Creek – The standout scored in overtime to give the Huskies a 4-3 win over General McLane. Harbor Creek clinched the Region 6 title and ran its streak to 23 straight region wins. She then scored twice in a 6-0 win over Girard.
Jasmin Khoo, Iroquois - Khoo scored with 26 minutes, 16 seconds left to vault the Braves to a 2-1 win over Maplewood and clinch the Region 3 title outright.
Olivia Augustyniak, Mercyhurst Prep – Scored twice in a 4-0 win over Warren before adding two more goals in a 3-0 win over Bradford.
Aubri McCoy, Grove City – Recorded a hat trick in a 7-0 win over Sharpsville.
Danielle Wissinger, Slippery Rock – Took a step closer to a milestone on Monday with three goals in an 8-0 win over Sharon. Wissinger then scored once in a 5-2 win over Wilmington to give her 97 career goals.
Liz Barnhart, Cambridge Springs – Barnhart scored twice to lead the Blue Devils to a 5-1 win over Eisenhower. Barnhart, who also scored once in a 7-0 win over Oil City, has more than 30 goals this season and is one of the top goal-scorers in District 10.
Sammy Valloud, McDowell – Had a hat trick in 8-0 win over Strong Vincent while also scoring a goal in a 2-0 win over Villa Maria.
Chandi Hasenplug, Sharpsville – Hasenplug scored three goals to lead the Blue Darlings to a 4-0 win over Sharon.
Julia Weller, Mercer – Had three goals and two assists in a 6-0 win over West Middlesex.
Megan Fish, Seneca – Scored at the end of regulation and again in overtime to give the Bobcats a thrilling 3-2 win over North East. She also scored in a 3-0 win against Mercer.
Nikki Cole, Fort LeBoeuf – Had the only goal as the Bison picked up a huge 1-0 win over General McLane.
Morgan Putnam, Villa Maria – Putnam continued her late-season surge with four goals in an 11-0 win over East.
Cara Cohick, East – Scored the Warriors’ only goal in a 1-0 win to give East its first win of the season.
Jessica Mihalic, Fairview – Scored three times to lead the Tigers to a 5-2 win over Grove City.
