This week did not disappoint as fans cast nearly 5,000 votes for the four breakout polls. With intense voting comes intense results. The girls soccer poll went up to the final minute with Allison Richards of Hickory coming out ahead of Lauren Elia (Mercyhurst Prep) and Megan Yount (Harbor Creek). At 11:48 p.m., all three players were deadlocked at 208 votes each. Fort LeBoeuf’s Kevin Gardner held off another strong showing by the Mercyhurst Prep community to edge Jose Abdala in the boys soccer poll.
Northwestern’s Aaron Morley took an early lead on Sunday and did not let it go to win the polls, while Fort LeBoeuf’s Abby Rose received strong support for the second-straight week to win the girls volleyball poll.
Fans are reminded that they can submit nominations each week. They must provide information on why the athlete should be nominated and emailed into the sports departmant at sports@timesnews.com by 5 p.m. on Saturday.
