McCutchen tries to help Oliver, Perry make smooth transition

Pittsburgh Public Schools is closing seven schools this year in an effort to save money and offer more classes at the remaining schools.

As a result of these moves, Oliver High School, which had existed for almost 90 years, will close and its students will attend Perry Traditional Academy.

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen recently participated in a program to help build unity and decrease tensions between the students from the former rival schools.

Incidentally, Perry will play its first football game with former Oliver players on its roster in Erie on Aug. 31 when the Commodores visit Cathedral Prep at Dollinger Field.

  1. Cliff says:

Does this make them the Oliver Perry High school? There are worse combinations, I am sure.

  2. Jeff Kirik says:

Plus, they’re already nicknamed the Commodores. It’s perfect.

However, the school will be called Perry.
