The fourth annual Pink The Rink hockey game between Cathedral Prep and McDowell will take place today at 8:30 p.m. at Erie Insurance Arena.

Pregame festivities begin at 8:15 p.m.  Ticket are $5 and T-shirts are $10.

The game is being dedicated to Jax Stone, who will drop the puck before the game. He is a 9-year-old Tracy Elementary School student who is undergoing treatment for a rare brain tumor called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. Stone has undergone six weeks of radiation treatment and is taking an experimental drug to battle the tumor.

Last year’s Pink The Rink event raised $15,000 for Kanzius Cancer Research as more than 1,800 attended the game.

This year’s proceeds will benefit the Regional Cancers Center and Making Strides Agaisnt Breast Cancer.

The game’s program includes a list of individuals that the players and teams are playing in memory of — and in honor of — during the game.

The series is tied 1-1-1 through the first three games.

A pair of area high school graduates, Adam Clement and Ryan Zapolski, have had a great week in their respective sports.

Clement, who starred in soccer for McDowell, was drafted by the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Major League Soccer supplemental draft Tuesday. He recently completed his career with Duquesne University and could be headed for a pro soccer career.

Zapolski, who was a hockey standout at Cathedral Prep, has had a big year in the East Coast Hockey League. The former Mercyhurst University star also was named MVP of the ECHL All-Star Game Wednesday.
