The Warren boys tennis team made its first trip to Hershey today for the PIAA Class AA team tournament.

The Dragons’ experience ended quickly.

A talented Wyomissing team handed Warren a 5-0 loss in this morning’s quarterfinals, as the Dragons closed the team season with a 19-1 record.

Wyomissing, the District 3 champion, won all 10 sets, including 6-0 , 6-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.  Here’s a look at the Class AA bracket.

Cathedral Prep will look for better luck today when it faces Pennsbury in the Class AAA quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. at Hershey Racquet Club. Prep is making its first trip to the quarterfinals since 2004.

Prep and Warren each will take three players to Hershey next week for the PIAA singles and doubles tournaments.

Warren ended Fairview’s District 10 Class AA boys tennis team title streak at 11 today with a 3-2 victory over the Tigers at Pennbriar Athletic Club.

Fairview had won each of the first 11 titles since the team tournament started in 2001.

Warren, which improved to 17-0, also capped a District 10 season in which the Dragons swept the singles and doubles titles as well. Shane Burns won the AA singles title Monday, and Matt Sandberg and Thomas Pellegirino won the doubles crown Wednesday.

Fairview (12-6) will not advance a player to the PIAA tournament.

Update 2:

Cathedral Prep claimed its third straight District 10 Class AAA boys tennis title today by beating rival McDowell 4-1 at Pennbriar Athletic Club.

The Ramblers completed a three-match season sweep of the rival Trojans and a three-day sweep of the D-10 finals. On Monday, Prep’s Nicholas Ward won the Class AAA singles title. On Wednesday, Alex Brzozowski and Mario Nicolia claimed the AAA doubles title.

This is the seventh overall D-10 team title for Prep since the tournament started in 2001.

Update 1:

Fairview and Warren advanced to the District 10 Class AA boys tennis team finals today with morning semifinal victories at Pennbriar Athletic Club.

Fairview beat Greenville 4-1 and Warren defeated Kennedy Catholic 4-1 in the semifinals.

The Tigers are going for their 12th consecutive D-10 Class AA team title. They are the only team to ever win the title since the tournament started in 2001.

However, Warren defeated Fairview twice during the regular season — once because Fairview used a player later ruled ineligible. Warren also claimed both District 10 titles earlier this week as Shane Burns won the AA singles title, and Matt Sandberg and Thomas Pellegirino won the doubles crown.

The team finals are scheduled for 2 p.m. at Pennbriar.

Cathedral Prep and McDowell began playing the Class AAA championship match at noon. We’ll have an update when that match is completed.
