The Class A and AA editions of the Pennsylvania Sports Writers all-state football teams have been released. Hickory standout DeShawn Coleman was named to the Class AA team at running back after rushing for 1,730 yards and 28 touchdowns on 151 carries. He also had nine catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns and finished with 210 points this season.

In two seasons at Hickory, Coleman has rushed for 4,123 yards and 59 touchdowns to make him the all-time rusher in school history. He has also won the District 10 scoring title the past two years. Hickory claimed the District 10 Class AA championship in both of Coleman’s seasons but he will graduate in the spring and play for West Virginia next year.

No other District 10 players were named to the A or AA teams. The Class AAA and AAAA teams are due out Thursday.

Cathderal Prep's Damion Terry on 2012 Kickoff cover

Page featuring D-10 Players to Watch. (More photos, names listed on facing page.)

Look for District 10′s Players to Watch in the 2012 Kickoff magazine, which will be available by Friday at all northwestern Pennsylvania Country Fair locations. (Readers might see it in some stores earlier.)

What is Kickoff? It’s District 10′s most comprehensive high school football season preview. All week, we’re giving fans a sneak peek of the magazine on the Varsity blog. Today, we’ll look at the Players to Watch pages for 2012.

District 10 has many talented players returning for the 2012 season, as evidenced by the five seniors who already have committed to major colleges for 2013. That list includes Cathedral Prep’s Damion Terry (above on Kickoff cover, Michigan State), General McLane’s Quinn Thompson (Connecticut), Hickory’s DeShawn Coleman (West Virginia), McDowell’s James Conner (Pitt) and Meadville’s Artrel Foster (Temple). Of course, each of the aforementioned is a player to watch for the 2012 season.

Kickoff will give readers a more extensive list of players to keep an eye on in a two-page spread that includes vivid color photos. One of those pages is pictured above.

This is the third edition of the award-winning Kickoff produced by the Erie Times-News, and we believe it’s our best. Fans can get 116 pages packed with information, feature stories and color photos, and it will be available for $5 by Friday at all area Country Fair stores.

Artrel Foster

Meadville’s Artrel Foster is the latest in a series of District 10 skill-position players who have committed to major colleges.

When Foster announced that he had picked Temple recently, he became the fourth high-profile skill-position player from the district to commit to a major college before his senior season.

Foster joins Cathedral Prep quarterback Damion Terry (Michigan State), Hickory running back DeShawn Coleman (West Virginia) and General McLane tight end Quinn Thompson (Connecticut) on that list.

At least two other skill-position players in D-10 are being recruited: McDowell running back/defensive end James Conner and Cathedral Prep running back/safety Delton Williams. Pitt is among those interested in Conner, while Williams has more than a dozen offers, including Michigan State and Nebraska.
