Sami Pace

The Fort LeBoeuf girls soccer team not only wanted to make the District 10 playoffs this season, but the Bison were eyeing the Region 5 championship.

In the biggest week of the season, senior striker Sami Pace stepped forward to lead LeBoeuf to huge wins over Harbor Creek and General McLane.

Pace started with one goal and assist in a thrilling 2-1 win over the Huskies before collecting both goals in a 2-0 win against the Lancers.

Pace has playoff experience in her career and could be a difference-maker in the D-10 playoffs.

Fort LeBoeuf Bison
Boys
Coach (season, record): Jason Falk (6th season, 30-57-4)
2011 overall record: 1-17-0
2011 region record (place): 0-12-0 (seventh)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Tyler Black, Kevin Gardner, Kris Musser, A.J. Rathburn, Tyler Yost
Top returning players: Pat Szastak, Alex Graml, Steve Port, Donovan Owens, Cody Litz
Assistant coach: Ryan Conway
Outlook: Fort LeBoeuf went through some growing pains in 2011 and will look to use that experience this fall. The Bison will have a young team, especially with the graduation of Tyler Black, Tyler Yost, Kevin Gardner, Kris Musser and A.J. Rathburn. Gardner (offense) and Black (defense) were all-region second-team selections. Gardner led LeBoeuf with seven goals and four assists and Yost had three goals and three assists. The Bison has experience back this fall and will look to build off a tough season last fall. Pat Szastak, Alex Graml, Steve Port, Donovan Owens and Cody Litz return this season, while senior Ozzie Bower and junior Mark McWilliams could be impact players. Litz had three goals and one assist last fall. LeBoeuf will have some trouble rebuilding in a tough Class AA region but the Bison built chemistry and gained experienced last year. Developing the program and getting contributions from the underclassmen will be the biggest keys in Waterford this fall.

Girls
Coach (season, record): Karl Falk (8th season overall, 2nd season at Fort LeBoeuf, 11-6-0 at LeBoeuf)
2011 overall record: 11-6-0
2011 region record (place): 8-4-0 (third)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Katie Lloyd, McKenzie Helsley, Brianna Kenney, Nikki Cole, Dawn Rosthauser, Jess Inks, Ellen Latimer, Olivia Danylko
Top returning players: Kamryn Troyer, Cassie Yovich, Cecelia Miller, Cora Burek, Jordan Oberlander
Assistant coach: Lisa Jablonski
Outlook: Fort LeBoeuf could play with a chip on its shoulder this season. The Bison were left out of the District 10 Class AA playoffs last season after having a strong case for being in the postseason. LeBoeuf will have to replace several lost players to graduation, including Katie Lloyd, McKenzie Helsley, Brianna Kenney, Nikki Cole, Dawn Rosthauser, Jess Inks, Ellen Latimer and Olivia Danylko. Cole led LeBoeuf with nine goals and three assists and was voted to the all-region second team on offense. Lloyd had six goals and three assists, while Helsley had four goals. With a big group gone, the Bison will lean on several standouts to lead a young team. Kamryn Troyer, Cassie Yovich, Cecelia Miller, Cora Burek and Jordan Oberlander are back this fall. Burek was a second-team selection on offense after collecting four goals and dishing out 10 assists. Oberlander was also a big-time offensive threat with seven goals and seven assists. LeBoeuf has a strong core back and coach Karl Falk will need several underclassmen to step up in support. Harbor Creek has dominated Region 5 over the past few years but the Bison could be a threat to end the Huskies’ reign this year.

Fort LeBoeuf Bisons
Boys
Coach (season, record): Jason Falk (5th season, 29-40-4)
2010 overall record: 7-10-1
2010 region record (place): 7-5-0 (fourth)
2010 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs
Top players lost: Alex Morelli, John Englert, Aaron Troyer, Zach Troyer, Charles Sparks, Cody Stone
Top returning players: Kevin Gardner, Tyler Black, Kris Musser, A.J. Rathburn, Dan Scutella, Pat Szastak, Steve Port
Assistant coach: Ian Burrows
Outlook: Fort LeBoeuf barely missed the District 10 playoffs last fall and the Bisons will need some of their younger players to step up this year to break into the postseason. LeBoeuf lost six key seniors to graduation but has a solid group back. Kevin Gardner, Tyler Black, Kris Musser, A.J. Rathburn, Dan Scutella, Pat Szastak and Steve Port could all be impact players this season but coach Jason Falk’s focus is to improve the Bisons’ offense. LeBoeuf only need a few things to come together and the Bisons could be competitive with every team in the region.

Girls
Coach (season): Karl Falk (1st season at Fort LeBoeuf, 7th overall)
2010 overall record: 5-7-5
2010 region record (place): 2-6-4 (fifth)
2010 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs
Top players lost: Lindsey Black, Danielle Gray
Top returning players: Brianna Kenney, Katie Lloyd, Kamryn Troyer, Sami pace, Mckenzie Helsley, Nikki Cole, Jessica Inks
Assistant coach: Maria Dembrow
Outlook: Fort LeBoeuf was competitive with most teams on its schedule last fall with five ties and five wins. The Bisons look to a new coach in Karl Falk this season and a shift of focus to play defense with discipline and smart, creative offense. The Bisons lost two important players in Lindsey Black and Danielle Gray but they have plenty of impact players back. Brianna Kenney, Katie Lloyd, Kamryn Troyer, Sami Pace, Mckenzie Helsley, Nikki Cole and Jessica Inks bring plenty of experience back for LeBoeuf and could lead the Bisons to a winning record.
