McDowell and General McLane are facing each other today in the District 10 Class AAA team wrestling championship at Central Tech.

McDowell wins the District 10 Class AAA team wrestling championship, 34-19 over General McLane, at Central Tech today to advance to the PIAA championships next week at Hershey. See below for updates from the semifinals and final.

Update No. 1 (2:06 p.m.)

McDowell 3, General McLane 0

The dual meet began at 113, and McDowell’s Benji Yates takes an early 4-0 lead and holds on to beat Hunter Hendricks 7-5, fighting off attacks by Hendricks at the end.

Update No. 2 (2:09 p.m.)

McDowell 9, General McLane 0

At 120, McDowell’s Paul Deitz gets a quick takedown and then rolls up Brandon Koehler for a fall in 26 seconds.

Update No. 3 (2:18 p.m.)

McDowell 9, General McLane 3

At 126, Keller Watkins gets the Lancers on the board with a 3-1 decision over Coleman Cousins. All three periods ended with flurries. This was the first rematch from the December dual, which Watkins won 6-3.

Update No. 4 (2:28 p.m.)

McDowell 12, General McLane 3

At 132, McDowell’s Nick Gibson downs General McLane’s Deane Twitchell 11-7, but misses bonus points. Gibson won the previous meeting in December by an 18-7 major.

Update No. 5 (2:37 p.m.)

McDowell 16, General McLane 3

At 138, Shawn Spearman with a 9-1 major over Ken Stoll. The Trojans pick up a point from the earlier dual meet when Spearman beat Stoll by straight decision 9-3.

Update No. 6 (2:48 p.m.)

McDowell 19, General McLane 3

At 145, McDowell’s Cody Nolan beats General McLane’s Kyle Sult 10-3. From a tactical standpoint, this is a victory for the Lancers since Nolan pinned Sult at the 2:39 mark in the December dual.

Update No. 7 (2:57 p.m.)

McDowell 19, General McLane 9

At 152, big win for the Lancers as Ossie Bowers comes back from an early deficit to pin McDowell’s Ryan Dailey at the 5:31 mark.

Update No. 8 (3:08 p.m.)

McDowell 22, General McLane 9

At 160, lots of drama as McDowell’s Tyree Spearman gets in on a deep double and finally finishes with 1.3 seconds left in the bout for a 5-4 win over General McLane’s Mike Sutton. This was a key swing bout, as Sutton won a decision in the December dual when Spearman was out of the lineup.

McDowell 22, General McLane 12

At 170, General McLane’s Tyler Hendricks with a 5-0 win over McDowell’s Joe Campanella to tight up the team score. In the December dual, Hendricks won a 9-1 major over Kyle Rogers at this weight, but Rogers is at 170 today with Tyree Spearman back.

McDowell 22, General McLane 15

At 182, General McLane’s Chris Laird with a 4-0 decision over McDowell’s Kyle Rogers.

Update No. 11 (3:39 p.m.)

McDowell 25, General McLane 15

At 195, McDowell’s Andrew Bradley with a 6-3 win over General McLane’s Alex Thayer, a big reversal from the December dual. In that match, Bradley led 4-2 after two periods, but Thayer wound up pinning him after locking up a cradle with 39 seconds left in the bout.

Update No. 12 (3:45 p.m.)

McDowell 31, General McLane 15

At 220, McDowell clinches it in surprising fashion, as Dakota McLean, trailing 5-0, tosses Ian Mallory to his back and gets the fall at the 5:06 mark.

Update No. 13 (3:53 p.m.)

McDowell 34, General McLane 15

At 285, McDowell’s Scot Augustine wins a 1-0 decision over General McLane’s Jake Baker.

Update No. 14 (4:02 p.m.)

McDowell 34, General McLane 19

In the final bout at 106, General McLane’s Joe Wheeling with a 10-2 major over Charlie Lenox. It’s a final, and McDowell will move on to the PIAA tournament on Thursday in Hershey.

General McLane beat Warren 54-22 and McDowell downed Titusville 66-6 in the District 10 Class AAA team wrestling semifinals this afternoon at Central Tech. The Lancers and Trojans will  meet at 2 p.m. in a rematch of their December dual meet, which GM won 34-23. Check back for updates from the finals.

Today’s District 10 Class AAA team wrestling championships have been postponed because of inclement weather.

The four-team tournament has been rescheduled for Saturday at Central Tech High School. Semifinals will begin at noon, with the finals at 2 p.m.

No. 1-seeded General McLane will face No. 4 Warren , and No. 2 McDowell will meet No. 3 Titusville in the semifinals.

Keller Watkins

Keller Watkins is only a sophomore but the General McLane standout is wrestling like a veteran this season.

After an impressive fourth-place finish at the prestigious Tool City Tournament, the 126-pound wrestler picked up two crucial wins in Region 4 duals.

He started off with 6-4 overtime win against Cathedral Prep. The Lancers were struggling at the time but Watkins’ thrilling win sparked McLane in a 54-12 win.

He then earned a 15-0 technical fall to help McLane rout Titusville 52-16.

Mike Sutton

General McLane junior Mike Sutton has been one of the top wrestlers in Erie County this season. His success is a big reason for the Lancers’ emergence as a favorite in Class AAA.

Sutton recently won the 152-pound championship at the prestigious Tool City Tournament in Meadville. He picked up a 5-2 win in the championship match.

Sutton continued his momentum Thursday with a thrilling 5-3 win in the 152-pound bout of McLane’s 54-12 victory against traditional power Cathedral Prep. McLane looks like the Class AAA team to beat and Sutton could be primed for a strong postseason.

D.J. Myers

Myers won this week’s award, thanks to an impressive performance in a weekend tournament.

He went 7-0 in pool competition to win the 152-pound division during the Harold Jarvis Memorial Tournament in Athens, Pa.

Myers’ effort helped the Lancers win the tournament team title.

The senior figures to be a key contributor for the McLane wrestling team all season.
