Softball
Coach (season, record): Tom Harpst (2nd season, 10-7)
2012 overall record: 10-7
2012 region record (place): 7-3 (second)
2012 playoff results: Lost to North East 2-1 in a District 10 Class AA play-in game.
Top players lost: Jessica May, Cassie Schuhlen, Paige Leary, Allyson Meihan
Top returning players: Marissa Hetrich, Lindsey Guerrini, Mackenzie Adams, Sammie Rust, Brittany Reinhart, Kayla Chizmar, Erynn Williams, Nicole McElhaney, Isabella Greenawalt, Brenda Kaller, Syndy Holle
Outlook: Jamestown was impressive in coach Tom Harpst’s first season. The Muskies made the playoffs and suffered a brutal one-run loss in a play-in game. Jamestown has plenty of talented players back this season to make another run in a tough Class AAA field. First, the Muskies will have to replace several players that graduated, including Jessica May, Cassie Schuhlen, Paige Leary and Allyson Meihan. May was voted to the all-region first team at catcher and the region co-player of the year and Schuhlen was voted to the second team at third base. Jamestown has an experienced group back this spring. Marissa Hetrich, Lindsey Guerrini, Mackenzie Adams, Sammie Rust, Brittany Reinhart, Kayla Chizmar, Erynn Williams, Nicole McElhaney, Isabella Greenawalt, Brenda Kaller and Syndy Holle are back to contribute for the Muskies. Jamestown could also receive help from new players Heather Williams, Brenda Kaller, Cameron Leary and several other freshmen as well. The Muskies have a strong defense and two experience pitchers in Williams and Hetrich. Jamestown has depth and experience back this season as well. The Muskies do have some speed issues and lost power to graduation but both could be addressed early in the season. Jamestown will rely on its defense and manufacturing runs early in the season and Harpst is hoping the power comes later in the year.
