Jamestown Muskies
Boys
Coach: Scot Vannoy (1st season)
2012-13 overall record: 1-20
2012-13 region record: 1-7 (tied for fourth)
2012-13 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class A playoffs.
Top player lost: Alex Boylan
Top returning players: Ryan Livingston, Kyle Melton, Andrew Moss, William Graham, Todd Dupree
Outlook: Jamestown will go in a new direction this season with first-year head coach Scot Vannoy. The Muskies were young and struggled last season with one win. With those struggles came experience and Jamestown is looking to use that experience this winter to improve. The Muskies will have to replace all-region second-team selection Alex Boylan, who scored 15 points per game last winter. Everyone is back for Jamestown, including Ryan Livingston, Kyle Melton, Andrew Moss, William Graham and Todd Dupree. Livingston scored 7.7 points per game as a junior, while Melton, Moss, Graham and Dupree were big contributors as well. Jamestown needs several players to step up this year to replace Boylan’s production. The Muskies are looking to improve and their success will depend on how quickly they buy into a new system. Playing in Region 1 isn’t easy, but Jamestown’s main goal this season is to develop its new system and work toward building for the future.

Jamestown Muskies
Boys
Coach (season, record): Tyler Babcock (3rd season, 9-35)
2011-12 overall record: 3-19
2011-12 region record (place): 2-8 (fifth)
2011-12 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class A playoffs.
Top players lost: Derek Mauser, Ronnie Artman
Top returning players: Alex Boyland, Ryan Livingston, Kyle Melton
Assistant coach: Scot Vannoy
Outlook: Jamestown has gone through a tough stretch over the past few years but the Muskies have the experience to break out this winter. Jamestown will have to replace Derek Mauser and Ronnie Artman, who graduated in the spring. The Muskies return three seniors in Alex Boyland, Ryan Livingston and Kyle Melton. All three are returning starters and will see significant minutes. In fact, one of the Muskies’ glaring weaknesses could be depth at the guard position, making Livingston a key player that has to stay on the floor and up-and-coming sophomore Andrew Moss. Both could log a lot of minutes this year. Melton and Boyland will anchor the forwards whil sophomores William Graham and Todd Depree could step into varsity minutes right away. Jamestown is hungry to turn the program around this winter and playing smart basketball could be the key to doing so.

Girls
Coach (season, record): Allison Gordon (3rd season, 8-34)
2011-12 overall record: 4-16
2011-12 region record (place): 1-9 (tied for fifth)
2011-12 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class A playoffs.
Top players lost: Cassie Schuhlen, Kylee Polley, Taylor Brooks
Top returning players: Isabella Greenawalt, Savannah Miller
Assistant coaches: Mike Seman, Greg Shirey
Outlook: Jamestown could go through a rebuilding year as the Muskies start looking toward the future. Jamestown graduated three seniors in Cassie Schuhlen, Kylee Polley and Taylor Brooks. All three were leaders on the team, while Schuhlen was voted to the all-region team over the past two years. She was the leading scorer last year while Polley was third. Sophomore guard Isabella Greenawalt is a returning starter along with junior point guard Savannah Miller. Greenawalt was the second-leading scorer for the Muskies last year, while Miller was a leader on the team at point guard. Both could play crucial roles on this year’s team. Emily Robinson, Loghan Sankey and Mikayla Keyser are younger players that could step into big varsity roles right away. The Muskies are in a tough region but any growing pains they go through this year to build chemistry, could pay off down the line.

Jamestown Muskies
Boys
Coach (season, record): Tyler Babcock (2nd season, 6-16)
2010-11 overall record: 6-16
2010-11 region record (place): 3-7 (fifth)
2010-11 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class A playoffs.
Top players lost: Nick Miller, Beans Richter, David Ochs
Top returning player: Derrick Mausser
Assistant coach: Kurt Groover
Outlook: Jamestown will be a young and inexperience team this year. The Muskies lost standouts Nick Miller, Beans Richter and David Ochs to graduation and they have only one starter back. Derrick Mausser is a solid point guard and second-year coach Tyler Babcock is looking for him to take a major leadership role. With four open spots in the starting lineup, the competition for playing time could be intense during camp, which is set to begin Friday. Ronnie Artman, Alex Boylan, Ryan Livingston and Kyle Melton could all step into big roles this winter. Artman saw playing time with the varsity last year, while Boylan will look to replace Miller with his hustle and work ethic. Melton could be the most important new player as he will look to dominate in the paint. Size will be an issue for the Muskies as well as depth but Babcock is hoping that Jamestown’s speed and discipline will overcome both.

Coach (season, record): Allison Gordon (2nd season, 4-18)
2010-11 overall record: 4-18
2010-11 region record (place): 3-7 (tied for fourth)
2010-11 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class A playoffs.
Top players lost: Kayla Cook, Cass Grafton
Top returning players: Cassie Schuhlen, Kylee Polley, Taylor Brooks
Assistant coaches: Mike Seman, Greg Shirley
Outlook: Jamestown lost two players to graduation in Kayla Cook and Cass Grafton but the Muskettes are in pretty good shape. Jamestown has three returning starters in seniors Cassie Schuhlen, Kylee Polley and Taylor Brooks. The trio are expected to be leaders this season and will need to help the younger players fill in some roles. Savannah Miller, Natalie Foltz and Isabella Greenawalt could all make an impact on the varsity level this winter and could be important in developing some depth for second-year coach Allison Gordon. Team speed will be the Muskettes’ calling card but they might need some forwards to step up and compete in the paint. With powerhouses Farrell and Kennedy Catholic in their region, Jamestown has some tough region games to deal with this winter. The Muskettes will need to develop depth and chemistry in camp if they want to improve on last year’s four-win season.
