Although a District 10 team did not walk away with the American Legion Region 8 championship, several D-10 baseball players were honored as members of the all-tournament team. General McLane’s Josh Ponsoll and Joey Gierlak along with Aaron Morley (Northwestern) were named to the team from runner-up Albion. Millcreek had McDowell’s Ryan Kaverman and Alex Margraf on the team, while Conneaut Lake graduate Adam Bronson and Saegertown’s Tyler Walters represented French Creek Valley.

Quinn Luhr, Cole Peterson, Jesse Reynolds and Josh Mitchell filled out the rest of the team from Region 8 champion Wilcox. Wilcox is competing in the state championship tournament this week.

Champion crowned: Wilcox routed Albion 12-0 in eight innings to claim the Region 8 title. Wilcox advances to the state tournament Tuesday in Boyertown.

The American Legion Region 8 tournament championship game is set. Albion defeated French Creek Valley 6-2 this afternoon. Albion plays Wilcox at 4 p.m. for the Region 8 title and a spot in the state tournament.

Only four teams remain in the Region 8 legion tournament. Wilcox is the lone remaining unbeaten team, while Millcreek, Albion and French Creek Valley have one loss apiece. Here is a look at the bracket over the final two days.

Final update: Wilcox defeats Millcreek 14-6. Wilcox is the only unbeaten team left, while Millcreek, Albion and French Creek Valley all have one loss. Two more teams will go home Tuesday.

Evening update: French Creek Valley routs St. Marys 14-4 in seven innings. The four teams left in the Region 8 tournament at Wilcox, Millcreek, Albion and French Creek Valley.

Albion lives to play another day as they defeated Meadville 12-3 in a losers’ bracket game this afternoon. French Creek Valley and St. Marys are playing an elimination game at 4 p.m. before the winners’ bracket championship between Millcreek and Wilcox at 7:30 p.m.

Final update: Millcreek routs St. Marys 14-4 in seven innings to advance to the winners’ bracket championship. Millcreek will play Wilcox at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. St. Marys is still alive and will play French Creek Valley at 4 p.m. in the losers’ bracket.

Afternoon update: Wilcox beats Albion 8-3 and advances to the winners’ bracket championship. Albion will fight for its life Monday at 1 p.m. against Meadville.

French Creek Valley and Meadville kept their seasons alive today through different means. French Creek routed Corry 19-0, while Brookville dropped out of the tournament to give Meadville an easy win. Both Crawford County teams will wait for the two winners’ bracket semifinals to finish to find out their Monday opponents.

The American Legion baseball playoffs continued today with the start of the Region 8 tournament. The champion will advance to the state tournament on July 31.

In early morning action, Wilcox routed French Creek Valley 11-3. Millcreek followed with a 20-6 win over Meadville. French Creek Valley will play Sunday at 10 a.m. against the loser of the Albion-Corry game with its playoff life on the line. Meadville will follow at 1 p.m. against the loser of the Brookville-St. Marys game.

Wilcox will play in the winners’ bracket semifinals Sunday at 4 p.m. against the winner of the Albion-Corry game. Millcreek has plenty of time to rest as it won’t play until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday against the winner of the Brookville-St. Marys game.

Albion advanced to the winner’s bracket semifinals with a 9-2 win over Corry. Albion will take on Wilcox and Corry will play French Creek Valley on Sunday.

The American Legion baseball playoffs are starting to heat up in Pennsylvania as the region tournaments start this weekend. The eight-team, double-elimination Region 8 tournament begins Saturday at St. Marys. Erie County champion Albion will take on Warren County champion Corry at 4 p.m. Millcreek will battle Meadville in the game before at 1 p.m. The other two games and times are to be determined.

Albion ended Millcreek’s six-year run as Erie County champion with a 10-8 win Tuesday in an American Legion baseball game. Albion ran through the eight-team tournament field and finished 4-0. Both teams advance to the Region 8 tournament beginning Saturday in St. Marys.

Corry overcame a 1-0 deficit in the best-of-three championship series to take the Warren County championship against Warren. Corry forced a third game by winning the second in extra innings on a balk. On Tuesday, Corry beat Warren 12-9 to earn an automatic spot.

Out of the eight spots in the Region 8 tournament, six have been clinched. St. Marys, Albion, Millcreek, Corry, French Creek Valley and Meadville are in. The Butler and Elk champions are still to be determined. Butler is down to Saxonburg against either Butler City or East Butler. The Elk County spot will be either Wilcox or Fox Township.

Millcreek scored two runs late to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Post 11 3-1 in the loser’s bracket championship of the American Legion Erie County playoffs. Millcreek will take on Albion Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Northwestern High School. If Albion wins, it is the champion with an undefeated run through the playoffs. If Millcreek wins, the two teams would meet against Wednesday at 8 p.m. to decide the champion.

Both teams advance to the Region 8 tournament this weekend regardless of the outcome of the championship round. The Region 8 tournament will take place at St. Marys beginning Saturday through the following Wednesday. French Creek Valley, Meadville and St. Marys have already clinched spots in the tournament. The American Legion baseball season will wrap up in the next month as the playoffs continue on several levels. The state is divided up into regions with most of District 10 along with District 9 and some District 7 teams in Region 8. The Region 8 tournament will take place this coming weekend in St. Marys. The double-elimination tournament features eight teams. Seven will be county champions between Butler, Clarion, Crawford-Venango, Elk, Erie, Mercer-Lawrence and Warren.

So far, St. Marys has clinched a spot as the host and French Creek Valley won the Crawford-Venango berth. St. Marys can also serve as the Elk County automatic. However, Meadville out of Crawford-Venango, has also earned a spot which likely replaces either the Clarion or Mercer-Lawrence team. Last summer, the Clarion and Mercer-Lawrence spots were forfeited because of various reasons.

Erie County was given two spot this year. Albion clinched one spot by making the Erie County championship game Tuesday. The other spot will go to the winner of tonight’s game between Post 11 and Millcreek. The winner plays Albion Tuesday for the Erie County title and if Post 11 or Millcreek defeats Albion the two teams will meet again Wednesday for the final game of the tournament.

The Warren County spot will be decided tonight when Warren Post 135 takes on Corry at 5:30 p.m.
