Hannah Feucht finally got her coveted District 10 individual swimming title after several near misses.
The North East junior, who owned five school records coming into the season, broke through with a gold medal in the 100-yard backstroke Saturday at the D-10 Class AA championships at Penn State Behrend’s Junker Center. Feucht finished with a strong time of 58.81 seconds while shaving more than a second off her seed mark.
On Friday, she placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.49, trailing only the 24.01 of Mercyhurst Prep’s Rylee Klomp.
Now that she has her first District 10 title, Feucht will aim for her first PIAA medal next week during her third trip to the state championships at Bucknell University.
If the PIAA seeds are any indication, Feucht has a good shot at a top-eight finish that would garner a medal. She is seeded sixth in the backstroke and ninth in the 50 free. She just missed a medal in two events in 2012.
