Logan Gray

North East freshman Logan Gray is looking to make a name for himself right away in the high school wrestling community.

Gray is 25-3 this season and is the No. 1-seeded wrestler in Section 1 at 113 pounds in the Class AA sectionals this weekend at Union City.

Because of his impressive season, Gray received a bye in the quarterfinals and needs only to finish in the top four to move on to the District 10 tournament. He can guarantee a spot by winning his semifinal match or by reaching the consolation final in wrestlebacks.

Jordan Bryan

North East junior Jordan Bryan suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss in last year’s District 10 Class AA championship. Bryan fell to Greenville’s Randy Perkins 8-6 at 160 pounds.

This winter, Bryan is back and on a mission to win D-10.

He is off to a terrific start this season, including a second-place finish at the North East Classic. Bryan also had a major decision against Union City to help the Grapepickers pull out a 37-36 win in December.

Bryan should be one of the top seeds in the D-10 tournament and a favorite to claim the D-10 Class AA title.

Andrew Phelps

North East sophomore Andrew Phelps came up big when his team needed it the most. Trailing Union City 36-31 going into Phelps’ match at 195 pounds, the final bout of the match, the Grapepickers needed a pin to pull out the win. Phelps earned a fall in 3 minutes, 24 seconds to give North East a huge 37-36 win.

He followed that up by going 4-1 in the Lakeview Duals on Saturday, including two pins. North East has always produced solid wrestlers, and Phelps looks to have a bright future for the ‘Pickers.
