The PIAA released preliminary psych sheets Sunday for next week’s Class AA and Class AAA swimming and diving championships. They included automatic and time qualifiers for the meets, which will take place March 13-16 at Bucknell University.

In today’s edition, the Erie Times-News merged the automatic and time sheets to give area competitors a snap shot of where they rank for the PIAA championships.

For each event, the top seed is listed, along with where each District 10 competitor’s time — or diving point total — ranks among competitors in the same event.

The overall leaders and District 10 results from Friday’s PIAA Class AA swimming meet at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg. The top eight relay teams and individuals in each event will receive medals.

The PIAA has released its final psych sheets for this week’s state championships, and some changes have been made from the preliminary psych sheets.

After the automatic and time qualifiers are released each year, alterations are made so that coaches and swimmers can maximize their chances for state medals. For instance, some swimmers scratch from individual events to join relays.

One such change occurred in D-10, as Cathedral Prep’s Richard “R.J.” Rahner scratched from the 100-yard freestyle. Coach Mike Doyle confirmed today that Rahner will swim on the 400 freestyle relay instead.

Rahner still will compete in the 100 butterfly where he is seeded No. 4 after setting  District 10 meet and pool records in the event with a time of 50.15 seconds.

Here are some other changes reflected on the final psych sheets:

Four District 10 Class AA girls moved up one spot in the 50 freestyle when the fifth-seeded swimmer scratched. North East’s Hannah Feucht moved into the fifth spot, while Titusville’s Emily Nottingham (12th), Grove City’s Lauren Decker (24th) and Fairview’s Emma Allison (27th) each improved by one seed.

Feucht also moved up one seed to 19th in the 100 freestyle.

Slippery Rock’s Katie Antal moved up two spots to 10th in the Class AA 100 breaststroke and one spot to 27th in the 200 IM.

In Class AAA, McDowell’s Emma Swabb improved one spot to 15th in the 200 IM, Prep’s Luke Merski moved up one seed to 21st in the 100 backstroke and teammate Mike Squeglia moved up one spot to 28th in the 50 free.

Below are the revised seeds for District 10 qualifiers. The relay team members listed are those who raced in the D-10 championships and not necessarily the swimmers who will compete in the PIAA meet.

Earlier this week, the PIAA released preliminary psych sheets for next week’s state swimming and diving championships at Bucknell University in Lewisburg.

The preliminary psych sheets included separate lists for automatic qualifiers and time qualifiers. Now, the PIAA has released its final psych sheets, which list all of the qualifiers in order of seeding.

Some changes might have been made to the seedings. The Varsity blog will detail any changes to District 10 performers’ seedings in a later post.

District 10 has boasted some talented swimmers in a large variety of events throughout the years, but this season D-10 has been particularly strong in the sprinting events.

Led by McDowell senior Kevin Intrieri, D-10 saw meet or pool records fall in six events during this past weekend’s District 10 swimming championships at Penn State Behrend.

Intrieri tied the Class AAA meet and pool record with a time of 20.77 in the 50-yard freestyle. He also set meet and pool records in the 100-yard freestyle with a 46.17.

Franklin sophomore Phil Emerson continued his brilliant two-year career by setting Class AA meet records in the 50 free (21.07) and 100 free (46.37). His time in the 100 free was a pool record for a few hours Saturday. Intrieri broke the record later in the day.

Finally, Mercyhurst Prep junior Rylee Klomp set District 10 Class AA meet and pool marks in the 50 free (23.69) and 100 free (51.70).

The automatic and time qualifier psych sheets have been released for next week’s PIAA swimming and diving championships. The lists are tentative until later this week, but the Varsity blog has combined the lists to chart where D-10 qualifiers stand for the meet, which will take place March 14-17 at Bucknell University in Lewisburg.

The following list gives the No. 1 seed in each event along with each District 10 qualifier’s seed. Changes might be made to the list if more information is received from the PIAA:

If the PIAA psych sheets are any indication, District 10 is positioned for a memorable PIAA swim meet March 14-17 at Bucknell University in Lewisburg.

The Fairview boys and Mercyhurst Prep girls in particular will have a healthy number of high seeds entering next week’s state championships.

Also, area swimmers who didn’t advance automatically found out today if they will advance to the PIAA championships based on times. District 10 is well-represented with time qualifiers.

Later this week, the PIAA is expected to release a complete psych sheet including blended seeds for automatic and time qualifiers.

Mercyhurst Prep freshman Marie Georger became District 10′s first state swimming champion of any kind since in six years when she won the girls 100-yard backstroke title at Thursday’s PIAA Class AA swimming and diving meet.

Georger, a former swimming standout at St. George, was timed at 55.60 seconds in the championship final at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium. Although not officially recognized, she broke her own District 10 AA record of 55.67 at Penn State Behrend’s Junker Center.

That time made her the top seed when the 100 backstroke heats began Thursday morning. Georger qualified first for the championship final at 56.53.

Prior to Georger, the last time a district swimmer won a state title was 2003. That year, McDowell senior Jared Poniatowski won the Class AAA 50-yard freestyle in 20.73 seconds at Penn State University.

Georger also became Mercyhurst’s first swimming champion of any kind. The school reinstated the program for the 2006-07 season.
