Seneca Bobcats
Coach: Lauren Smith (1st season)
2012 overall record: 3-15
2012 region record: 3-11 (tied for sixth)
2012 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Katie Teed, Alexa Murphy, Kristi Izbicki
Top returning players: Julia Young, Cassi Walberg, Alexa Snarski, Bree Hibbler
Assistant coach: Scott May
Outlook: Seneca will be under new leadership as Lauren Smith takes over as head coach. Smith has been an assistant coach in Wattsburg and knows the program well. Seneca will have to fill some holes left by Katie Teed, Alexa Murphy and Kristi Izbicki. Murphy and Izbicki graduated in the spring and Teed has decided to play soccer instead. The Bobcats have some experience back in Julia Young, Cassi Walberg, Alexa Snarski and Bree Hibbler. Snarski is back at setter, while Young and Walberg are middle hitters. Hibbler is back as a back row passer. Seneca could also receive immediate contributions from new players Carilyn White, Andrea Evanoff, Hannah Erichson, Shaela Kemp and Masen Hartner. Erichson and Kemp are setters, while Evanoff, White and Hartner are outside hitters. Seneca has a young team and will likely go through some struggles in adapting to a new system and coach. However, those growing pains could pay off next year with a strong set of juniors on this year’s team. The Bobcats will need to build team chemistry right away and developing the program could be more important than winning matches.

Seneca Bobcats
Coach (season): Betsy Walker (5th season)
2011 overall record: 2-16
2011 region record (place): 2-14 (eighth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Sydney Boyles, Shaylyn Walberg
Top returning players: Samantha Black, Kristy Izbicki, Katie Teed, Alexa Snarski, Cassi Walberg
Assistant coach: Lauren Smith
Outlook: Seneca went through some growing pains last fall with two wins but the Bobcats bring back an experienced group. Seneca will be without graduates Sydney Boyles and Shaylyn Walberg this season but everyone else returns. Seniors Samantha Black and Kristy Izbicki are back as hitters along with juniors Katie Teed and Cassi Walberg. Alexa Snarski, a junior, is back at setter for the Bobcats. Seneca could also receive big contributions from junior Julie Young, who could play nearly every position on the floor. The Bobcats will have experience this season but winning matches won’t be easy in Region 5. Having the confidence to compete with Erie County’s best will be important this fall.

Seneca Bobcats
Coach (season): Betsy Walker (4th season)
2010 overall record: 1-17
2010 region record (place): 1-15 (ninth)
2010 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Brittney Ferguson, Jacqueline Husted, Rebecca Johnston, Katy Keller, Christie Wnukowski, Sarah Ericson
Top returning players: Katie Teed, Sydney Boyles
Outlook: Seneca will be starting over this fall after winning one game last year. The Bobcats lost several standout seniors to graduation, including Brittney Ferguson, Jacqueline Husted, Rebecca Johnston, Katy Keller, Christie Wnukowski and Sarah Ericson. The Bobcats will look to rebuild and gain some experience as the year goes on. Seneca will have senior Sydney Boyles back as well as sophomore Katie Teed. The two saw plenty of playing time last year and will be valuable leaders this fall.
