Sharon Tigers
Boys
Coach (season, record): Adam Giglio (3rd season, 10-21-3)
2011 overall record: 4-12-1
2011 region record (place): 1-7-1 (fifth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top player lost: Anthony Martwinski
Top returning players: Josh Nichols, Vinnie Shaffer, Ross Ballard, Justin Stefanowicz, Dale Herman, Leo Rahn, Dylan Cerroni, Jory Zajac, Joey Rahn, John Benedetto
Outlook: Sharon is still building its program since splitting off into a boys and girls program. The Tigers only graduated Anthony Martwinski, making this year’s squad one of the most experienced groups in program history. Sharon returns Josh Nichols, Vinnie Shaffer, Ross Ballard, Justin Stefanowicz, Dale Herman, Leo Rahn, Dylan Cerroni, Jory Zajac, Joey Rahn and John Benedetto. Stefanowicz was voted to the all-region second team on offense as a junior. The Tigers open with a few interesting matches before heading to powerhouses Grove City and Hickory. Sharon is still figuring things out but with the abundance of experience back this year, the Tigers could be a tough team to beat this fall.

2011 overall record: 3-12-2
2011 region record (place): 0-8-0 (fifth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Jenna Williams, Diana Revale
Top returning players: Hannah Rauch, Hannah Levitt, Mikaela Skiljo, Alexis Jefferson, Kieran Zajac, Kate Calla
Assistant coaches: Terry Sherniski, Sam Rauch
Outlook: Sharon was impressive during its first season as a varsity program. The Tigers won five matches and were competitive in several others. Sharon graduated Jenna Williams and Diana Revale but everyone else is back this fall. Hannah Rauch, Hannah Levitt, Mikaela Skiljo, Alexis Jefferson, Kieran Zajac and Kate Calla return to lead an experienced group. Skiljo was voted to the all-region second on offense last season and could emerge as a big-time scoring threat this year. Sharon dropped down to Class A this season and could compete for a region title right away. Wilmington is the two-time defending District 10 Class A championship, while Kennedy Catholic and Mercer are solid. If the Tigers can continue to improve and come together as a team this year, they will be a team to keep an eye on.

Sharon Tigers
Boys
Coach (season, record): Adam Giglio (2nd season, 6-9-2)
2010 overall record: 6-9-2
2010 region record (place): 4-5-1 (fourth)
2010 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Dan Stonebreaker, Kyle George, Jon Muszik, Brandon Martell
Top returning players: Josh Nichols, Justin Stefanowicz
Assistant coach: Giovanni Rossi
Outlook: Sharon hung with most of the talented teams in Region 2 last year but will need to fill some big holes in order to compete this fall. The Tigers will be young and inexperienced after losing Dan Stonebreaker, Kyle George, Jon Muszik and Brandon Martell to graduation. Muszik and Stonebreaker were named to the all-region team last year. Sharon has Josh Nichols and Justin Stefanowicz back to provide some leadership, while sophomore Joey Zajac and freshman Joey Rahn are looking to make an impact right away on the varsity level. The Tigers might go through some growing pains this fall but developing the program and having underclassmen gain experience will be the most important thing for Sharon.

2010 season: Did not have a program in 2010.
Top players lost: Brittany Benedeto, Brittany Johnson
Top returning players: Diana Revale, Jenna Williams, Kate Calla, Kieren Zajac, Hannah Rauch, Mikaela Skiljo, Hannah Levitt, Hannah Anderson, Madison Busse
Assistant coaches: Terry Shernisky, Sam Rauch
Outlook: Sharon finally has a varsity girls soccer team. The Tigers have competed with the boys’ team and on the junior varsity level for years. Sharon approved a girls team for this fall and the Tigers are looking to make an impact right away. Diana Revale will start in goal, while Jenna Williams, Kate Calla, Kieren Zajac and Hannah Rauch will anchor the defense. Midfielders Mikaela Skiljo, Hannah Levitt, Hannah Anderson and Madison Busse are back as well. The Tigers have several underclassmen that will be in the mix for playing time in camp. Sharon is looking to gain respect and become a quality soccer program right away. Coach Amanda Laurenza said that the Tigers have become soccer players over the years instead of just good athletes that play soccer. Sharon is in a tough region but gaining respect and building a program from the ground up are the points of focus this fall.
