Eisenhower Knights
Boys
Coach (season, record): Mike Decker (14th season, 169-69-7)
2011 overall record: 9-4-1
2011 region record (place): 4-3-1 (third)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class A playoffs.
Top players lost: Will Cole, Josiah Blick, Zach Gerbec, Justin DeMontier, Cole Ordiway
Top returning players: Ben Perkins, Jake VanHouten, Andy Decker, Matt Ernisse
Outlook: Eisenhower was hit hard by graduation in the spring and will need several underclassmen to step up this year. The Knights lost Will Cole, Josiah Blick, Zach Gerbec, Justin DeMontier and Cole Ordiway, leaving huge holes to fill. Cole was a first-team all-region goalkeeper, who is competing for Penn State Behrend this fall, while Blick, a first-team all-region selection on offese is at Pitt-Bradford. Gerbec was a first-team defender as a senior. Eisenhower has some leadership back but will be young and inexperienced. Andy Decker and leading scorer Jake VanHouten are returning second-team selections on offense, while Ben Perkins was a second-team defender. The Knights will have a tough time in Region 3, which features powerhouses Fairview and Mercyhurst Prep. Eisenhower will need a big effort from its underclassmen in order to compete for a playoff spot.

Girls
Coach (season, record): Kevin Weigel (6th season, 24-56-2)
2011 overall record: 3-13-0
2011 region record (place): 1-3-0 (third)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class A playoffs.
Top players lost: Kayla Riel, Emileigh Hishman
Top returning players: Taylor Talasky, Elizabeth Baran, Kearsten Maine, Brooke Stanton
Assistant coach: Matt Decker
Outlook: Eisenhower has high hopes this season after losing only two seniors to graduation. The Knights will have to deal with more competition in Class A, however. Eisenhower will be without Kayla Riel and Emileigh Hishman but everyone else is back. All-region selections Taylor Talasky (offense), Sidney Wallin (offense), Jackie Talasky (offense), Kearsten Maine (defense) and Elizabeth Baran (defense) are back this fall. Eisenhower usually deals with number issues but this year the Knights have well over 20 players interested with big freshmen and sophomore classes. Last year, the Knights were down to 16 players because of injuries. Eisenhower will need to improve as a team to deal with strong programs like Fairview, Iroquois and North East. Class A is only two years old and has expanded in a big way with the addition of spring soccer teams playing in the fall. The Knights are on their way up this season and could be an interesting team to keep an eye on.
