Youngsville Eagles
Baseball
Coach (season): Wayne Marino (1st season)
2012 overall record: 4-12
2012 region record (place): 1-5 (fourth)
2012 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top player lost: Cory Craig, Sawyer Dininny
The Eagles lost a big-time player in Cory Craig, who was voted to the all-region first team at shortstop and pitcher and was voted the region player and pitcher of the year. Sawyer Dininny is also gone after being voted to the all-region second team at first base. The Eagles have an experience group back, including Jake Marino, Caleb Linkerhof, Dan McLaughlin, Brandon Cochran and Tyler Lehman. Marino was voted to the first team at outfield, while Horn is a second-team catcher and Linkerhof and McLaughlin are second-team outfielders. The Eagles are looking to rebuild but contend right away.

West Middlesex Big Reds
Baseball
Coach (season): Jerry Novosel (34th season)
2012 overall record: 15-6
2012 region record (place): 6-0 (champion)
2012 playoff results: Defeated Linesville 8-0 in the District 10 Class A semifinals before losing to Mercyhurst Prep 1-0 in the District 10 championship. Mercyhurst Prep then forfeited the D-10 championship and West Middlesex advanced to the PIAA playoffs. The Big Reds lost to Elk County Catholic 6-2 in the first round of the PIAA playoffs.
Top player lost: Ryan Snyder, Kyle Gilmore
Top returning players: Mike Ginther, Jerrod Palmer, Dom Pape, Sage Pope, Riley Atterholt, Chaz Burger, Mark Colella, Mike Comninos, Christian Porterfield, Aaron Webb, Dillon Fair
Assistant coaches: Todd Anthony, Walter Novosel, Geno Colella
Outlook: West Middlesex went through an emotional roller coaster in the District 10 playoffs. The Big Reds fell to Mercyhurst Prep in the D-10 championship before finding out the next day that they were still alive. Mercyhurst ended up forfeiting the D-10 title, giving the Big Reds a spot in the PIAA playoffs. West Middlesex has almost its entire team back with the exception of Ryan Snyder and Kyle Gilmore. Gilmore was voted to the all-region team as an outfielder. The Big Reds have a strong group back, including Mike Ginther, Jerrod Palmer, Dom Pape, Sage Pope, Riley Atterholt, Chaz Burger, Mark Colella, Mike Comninos, Christian Porterfield, Aaron Webb and Dillon Fair. Porterfield is an all-region catcher and the region player of the year, while Ginther is an all-region pitcher and the region pitcher of the year. Staunch (first base), Pape (second base), Palmer (shortstop), Pope (outfield, pitcher) and Colella (designated hitter) are returning all-region selections. The Big Reds will face new challenges this year with a move up to Class AA. Among the road blocks to repeating as D-10 champion is Saegertown and several Erie and Mercer County powerhouses. West Middlesex will need to adjust to Class AA baseball right away to stay competitive. The Big Reds have the experience and talent to make some noise this season and adjusting to a higher level will determine how far they can go.

Schedule
April
3	Mercer*	W, 7-0
5	at Wilmington*	L, 8-10
6	Maplewood	W, 8-0
8	Reynolds*	W, 4-0
11	Hickory*	L, 1-5
12	at Lakeview	PPD
15	at Commodore Perry*	4
17	Sharpsville*	4
19	Jamestown	4
22	at Sharon*	4
24	at Mercer*	4
May
3	Bookfield (Ohio)
6	at Hickory*	4
8	Commodore Perry*	4
13	at Sharpsville*	4
15	Sharon*	4
*Region 2 games

Softball
Coach (season, record): Gene Rubeo (13th season, 177-63)
2012 overall record: 15-6
2012 region record (place): 9-3 (tied for second)
2012 playoff results: Defeated Youngsville 8-4 in the District 10 Class A quarterfinals before losing to Saegertown 1-0 in the semifinals.
Top players lost: Dani Monaco, Amanda Bowers, Amanda Novosel
Top returning players: Chelsey Reed, Jade Kroesen, Taylor Gilliland, Aly Andrusky, Jordyn Allen
Assistant coaches: Rachel Catale, Bob Michaels, Dan Kristyak
Outlook: West Middlesex gave Saegertown everything it could handle in the District 10 Class A semifinals last year. The Big Reds have a solid team back to make another run in the playoffs. West Middlesex will have to replace Dani Monaco, Amanda Bowers and Amanda Novosel, who graduated in the spring. Novosel was voted to the all-region first team at shortstop, while Bowes was a second-team third baseman and Monaco was a second-team outfielder. The Big Reds return everyone else, including Chelsey Reed, Jade Kroesen, Taylor Gilliland, Aly Andrusky and Jordyn Allen. Allen was voted to the first team as a pitcher and Andrusky (catcher) and Kroesen (second base) were named to the second team. West Middlesex has to replace its corner infielders and corner outfielders but everyone else is back. The Big Reds will also be without Megan Hazlett for a few weeks as she rehabs from an offseason injury. Freshman pitcher Tori Roth could step in and start right away or at least contribute this season. The Big Reds have experience and a strong program but they will need several underclassmen to step up this season to get back to the postseason.

Schedule

Warren Dragons
Baseball
Coach (season): Rick Eaton (1st season)
2012 overall record: 16-4
2012 region record (place): 8-2 (co-champion)
2012 playoff results: Defeated Grove City 6-3 and Cathedral Prep 2-0 to win the District 10 Class AAA championship. Warren then lost to Thomas Jefferson 4-2 in the first round of the PIAA playoffs.
Top players lost: Matt Jaskolka, Hank Morrison, Andrew Bevevino, Chris Danielson, Eddie Dorunda, Kory Thomas, Kevin Van Ord, Preston McMeans, Dan Maeder
Top returning players: Carter Cerra, Cameron MacIntosh, Ed Ord, Collin Fantaskey, Jason Stanton
Assistant coaches: Andrew Teconchuk, Jeff Eaton
Outlook: Warren will have a new look this season as longtime coach Jess Passaro retired. Rick Eaton takes over at Warren and will need to develop some of the younger players right away. The Dragons lost Matt Jaskolka, Hank Morrison, Andrew Bevevino, Chris Danielson, Eddie Dorunda, Kory Thomas, Kevin Van Ord, Preston McMeans and Dan Maeder to graduation. Bevevino (catcher), Dorunda (second base), Danielson (outfield), Jaskolka (outfield) and Van Ord (designated hitter) were voted to the all-region first team last season, while McMeans (first base) and Morrison (third base) were voted to the second team. Jaskolka and Dorunda were also second-team pitchers. Jaskolka is playing for Bloomsburg and Morrison is at Mercyhurst. Dorunda is playing for Mercyhurst North East. With a team full of talent that won a D-10 championship gone, the Dragons will need to rebuild quickly in order to repeat. Carter Cerra, Cameron MacIntosh, Ed Ord, Collin Fantaskey and Jason Stanton are back this spring to lead a young team. The returning group could be bolstered by new players Tanner Teconchuk, Todd Fasenmyer, Austin Schwanke, Ryan Gustafson, Tyler Bradly, Tanner Stanz, Matt Hultquist and Johnny White. Warren has a deep pitching staff and plenty of young talent, but developing chemistry will be the biggest key. The Dragons lost nine senior starters to graduation but the next generation looks solid. If Warren doesn’t repeat this season, keep an eye on the Dragons over the next few years. Warren is loaded with sophomores and juniors and this could be a development year to make another run in 2014.

Softball
Coach (season, record): Mark Bupp (7th season, 87-29)
2012 overall record: 18-2
2012 region record (place): 15-1 (co-champion)
2012 playoff results: Defeated Hickory 6-2 in the District 10 Class AAA semifinals before losing to Fort LeBoeuf 9-2 in the D-10 championship.
Top players lost: Samantha Bevevino, Rachel Hasselman, Kristin Hultquist, Shaley Williams
Top returning players: Erica Blair, Jaimie Eaton, Taylor Mineweaser, Alexa Bupp, Kaitlin Ishman, Kennedy Walter
Assistant coaches: Mark Blasdell, Tony Hasselman, Ed Loutzenhiser, Terry Wilson, Keith Confer, Chet Munksgard
Outlook: Warren was frustrated by Fort LeBoeuf last season but that could change this year. The Dragons return a loaded team with plenty of experience. Warren has some roster spots to fill with the graduation of Samantha Bevevino, Rachel Hasselman, Kristin Hultquist and Shaley Williams. Hasselman was voted to the all-region first team at first base and Hutlquist was a first-team outfielder. The Dragons return Erica Blair, Jaimie Eaton, Taylor Mineweaser, Alexa Bupp, Kaitlin Ishman and Kennedy Walter. Bupp has been dominant since her freshman season and is primed for a big junior year. She was voted to the all-region first team at pitcher and the region player and pitcher of the year. Ishman is a returning first-team selection at second base and Mineweaser is a second-team designated player. Warren lost four starters to graduation but has plenty of talented players back to make a run at the D-10 championship. The Dragons will get two shots at Fort LeBoeuf in region play before a possible third meeting in the D-10 playoffs. Warren has become deep enough to fill in graduation losses but building that extra chemistry will be key this spring.

Villa Maria Victors
Softball
Coach (season, record): Brian Leuschen (4th season, 12-36)
2012 overall record: 3-15
2012 region record (place): 3-15 (ninth)
2012 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Katie Leuschen, Elizabeth Nawrocki
Top returning players: Kayla Schlosser, Jackie Colish, Emily Luteran, Shelby Graml, Maria Colt, DaShawna Coleman, Madison Malec, Emma Knight
Assistant coaches: Alyssa Ogrodowczyk, Kaitlin Leuschen
Outlook: Villa Maria went through a tough season in 2012 but had a young team. Katie Leuschen and Elizabeth Nawrocki graduated leaving two spots to fill in the lineup. Leuschen hit .404 as a senior with 23 RBIs on 21 hits. Nawrocki scored 11 runs and had a .232 average. The Victors return Kayla Schlosser, Jackie Colish, Emily Luteran, Shelby Graml, Maria Colt, DaShawna Coleman, Madison Malec and Emma Knight this season. Graml is a returning all-region selection as an outfielder. Colish hit .32 last year, while Coleman is back from injury. Villa could also receive big contributions from new players Alicia Olson, Lexi Lazar, Madison Jarrett, Sierra Neely, Makaela Weber, Nicole Geanous and Jess Vybril. The Victors have a strong defense and return Luteran from injury to take the mound. Villa also has a strong freshman class to contribute this season. The Victors are young in certain places but experienced in most. Villa is still building its program up and could be a dangerous team this year. Region 4 is loaded with solid teams but Villa could become one of those solid teams as well.

Union City Bears
Baseball
Coach (season, record): Frank Cutshall (10th season, 87-80)
2012 overall record: 12-9
2012 region record (place): 5-3 (second)
2012 playoff results: Lost to Titusville 15-2 in the District 10 Class AA quarterfinals.
Top players lost: Austin Waters, Colton Yost, Kyle Hetrick, Jarrod Ossa
Top returning players: Schuyler Hopson, Drake Burgess, Austin Kinney, Alex Hoban, Shane Russell
Assistant coaches: Kevin Woods, Josh Lesik
Outlook: Union City used 2012 as a season to develop the program and still made it to the District 10 Class AA playoffs. The Bears are hoping to use that experience to make a deep run this season. Union City will have to replace Austin Waters, Colton Yost and Kyle Hetrick, who graduated, along with Jarrod Ossa, who is out for the season after having season-ending knee surgery. Waters was voted to the all-region first team at outfield, and Yost was a second-team outfielder. The Bears return a strong infield and have added some players to the outfield. Brody Mangel, Lucas Dougherty and Quentin Maynard are new players that could contribute right away this year. Union City could actually benefit from the Conneaut teams consolidating and moving out of the region. The Bears have lined up several non-region games to test their experienced team this year. Union City will find out where it stands against Saegertown in region play, and will look to use its experience to get back to the postseason.

Schedule

Softball
Coach (season): Frank Snyder (1st season)
2012 overall record: 7-11
2012 region record (place): 6-10 (tied for sixth)
2012 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Matti Uber, Katie Kirik, Caitlynn Miller, Lauren Miller
Top returning players: Noelle Wienczkowski, Morgan Peterson, Lakyn Brumagin, Stacey Boyce, Meghan Mongera, Carrie Brown, Courtney Brumagin
Assistant coaches: Mike Krause, Dawn Frontera, Denise Bisbee
Outlook: It’ll be an unusual look for Union City this season with Jerry Van Zandt retiring in the offseason. Frank Snyder, a longtime assistant to Van Zandt, takes over this spring. Snyder will have some players to replace as Matti Uber and Katie Kirik graduated, while Caitlynn Miller and Lauren Miller decided not to play this season. Kirik was voted to the all-region second team at outfield as a senior. The Bears return Noelle Wienczkowski, Morgan Peterson, Lakyn Brumagin, Stacey Boyce, Meghan Mongera, Carrie Brown and Courtney Brumagin this spring. Wienczkowski was voted to the all-region second team at pitcher last season. Autumn Kinney, Jena Chelton, Tori Migliaccio, Carly Williams, Hayley Patchen, Jordyn Kosienski, Mariah Coleman and Mikayla Conant are new players to the varsity level that could contribute right away. Union City has senior leadership and the program has become a perennial contender. The Bears will need several younger players to step up and fill four starting positions. Union City is in a tough region loaded with Crawford County teams. If the Bears can keep their strong program going under a new, but familiar coach, they will be a tough team to beat this season.

Titusville Rockets
Baseball
Coach (season, record): Mike Hlad (3rd season, 10-30)
2012 overall record: 18-3
2012 region record (place): 7-1 (champion)
2012 playoff results: Defeated Union City 15-2 in the District 10 Class AA quarterfinals and Sharpsville 2-1 in the semifinals. Titusville then lost to Saegertown 8-4 in the D-10 championship.
Top players lost: Luke Hipple, Robby Johnson
Top returning players: Adam Bleday, Jayce Corklin, Zach Foltz, Zach Horn, Ryan Schwab, Ethan Rapp, Tyler Ripper, Mike Gionti
Assistant coaches: Uriah Sampson, John Horn
Outlook: Titusville will be an interesting team to watch this season. The Rockets made their way to the District 10 Class AA championship before running into powerhouse Saegertown. Titusville is in a new region with new opponents to worry about this season. How quickly the Rockets adjust will determine how their season goes. Titusville will have replace Luke Hipple and Robby Johnson, who graduated, and will have a new head coach in Michael Hlad, who has coached Titusville in the past. Hipple (third base) and Johnson (shortstop) were voted to the all-region first team, and Hipple was a second-team pitcher. The Rockets will turn to Adam Bleday, Jayce Corklin, Zach Foltz, Zach Horn, Ryan Schwab, Ethan Rapp, Tyler Ripper and Mike Gionti for leadership. Bleday, a Virginia recruit, was voted to the first team at outfield and pitcher and Foltz is a second-team outfielder. The Rockets could also receive big contributions from new players Seth Mehlenbacher and Cody Sines, who are sophomores, along with freshman J.J. Bleday. The Rockets have a senior-laden team and will be in the mix for not only the region title but a contender for the D-10 title as well.

Softball
Coach (season, record): Jim Becker 10th season, 109-51)
2012 overall record: 18-1
2012 region record (place): 6-0 (champion)
2012 playoff results: Lost to Wilmington 4-3 in the District 10 Class AA semifinals.
Top player lost: Laney Brown
Top returning players: Shana Grosch, Kate Garrett, Kim Finley, Amy Clark, Marie Johnson, MacKenna Vandervort, Megan Bowser, Katie Neely
Assistant coaches: Megan Titus, Mark Sawatsky
Outlook: Titusville will face new challenges this season with a new region. The Rockets ran into former region rival Wilmington in the D-10 semifinals last season and are looking to get back to the playoffs. Titusville will have to replace Laney Brown, an outfielder who hit .445 and graduated in the spring. The Rockets have everyone else back, including Shana Grosch, Kate Garrett, Kim Finley, Amy Clark, Marie Johnson, MacKenna Vandervort, Megan Bowser and Katie Neely. Grosch (pitcher), Garrett (outfield), Finley (third base), Clark (catcher) and Johnson (second base) are first-team selections, while Vandervort (outfield) and Bowser (first base) are second-team picks. Grosch was voted region pitcher of the year and Clark is the region player of the year. Titusville returns eight of nine starters this season and has the talent to make a playoff run. The Rockets have plenty of offensive firepower and a solid pitcher in Grosch. Titusville is a strong favorite to win its new region and looks like the strongest contender to keep Fairview from winning another D-10 Class AA title.

Softball
Coach (season, record): Ron Niebauer (37th season, 433-213)
2012 overall record: 6-15
2012 region record (place): 6-10 (sixth)
Assistant coaches: Laura Morgan, Jerry Dunn, Heather Chaffee
Outlook: Strong Vincent ran into a tough McDowell team in the District 10 Class AAAA championship in the spring. The Colonels have an experienced team back loaded with talent. Julie Rhines is the only player lost to graduation in the outfield. Davonna Battle, Sara Bogle, Alyssa Brutto, Haley Hess, Lydia Jobczynski, Tiffany Jones, Christina Lachica, Myah Malone, Taylor Munson, Heidi Peck and Stephanie Peck are back for the Colonels. Lachica hit .343 last year and Munson had a .383 batting average. Peck led all Vincent players with a .517 batting average. Erin Erdely, Meghan Erdely, Katie Ghastin, Gabrielle Hess, Miranda McAllister, Hannah Rhodes and Carly Wilson are new players this season that could contribute for the Colonels. Vincent has enough experience to get back to the D-10 championship, and how well the Colonels develop as a team will determine if they can knock off McDowell.

Slippery Rock Rockets
Baseball
Coach (season, record): Nathan McCollough (2nd season, 8-12)
2012 overall record: 8-12
2012 region record (place): 4-6 (fourth)
2012 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Sean White, Andrew Gieraltowski, Connor Hogue, Sam Furrh, Mike Stutz
Top returning players: Cody Stephenson, Mitch Robinson, Joe Barnhart, Levi Leonberg
Assistant coaches: Fred Pryor, Darren Schulz, Bob Stougher, Mark White
Outlook: Slippery Rock hovered around .500 under new head coach Nathan McCollough last season and will look to keep improving this spring. The Rockets will have some big holes to fill in Sean White, Andrew Gieraltowski, Connor Hogue, Sam Furrh and Mike Stutz. White Slippery Rock’s only all-region selection as a second-team pitcher. Cody Stephenson, Mitch Robinson, Joe Barnhart and Levi Leonberg are back for the Rockets to lead an inexperienced team. Jackson Kerchis and Josh Bower are new players to the varsity level that could contribute right away. Slippery Rock will need several freshmen and sophomores step up this year to help out the upperclassmen. The Rockets have a solid pitching staff and a strong lineup, but inexperience and a lack of chemistry could be tough to overcome.

Sharpsville Blue Devils
Baseball
Coach (season, record): Mike Sikorski (6th season, 55-29)
2012 overall record: 17-2
2012 region record (place): 9-1 (champion)
2012 playoff results: Defeated Commodore Perry 12-7 in the District 10 Class AA quarterfinals before losing to Titusville 2-1 in the semifinals.
Top players lost: Kevin Yarabinec, Nick Siguenza
Top returning players: Bryan Stafford, Jake Bulick, Taylor Lenzi, Jalen Mockabee, Ross Llewellyn, Tanner Morris, Greg Popatak, Tyler Wansack, Mitch Fyffe
Assistant coaches: Shawn Valenly, Bobby Donatelli, Kyle Rupp
Outlook: Sharpsville ran into a tough Titusville in the D-10 semifinals last year, and the Blue Devils are looking for another run in the playoffs this year. Sharpsville lost Kevin Yarabinec and Nick Siguenza to graduation and both leave big holes to fill. Yarabinec hit .351 with six home runs and had 100 strikeouts with a 0.47 ERA for the Blue Devils. He was voted to the all-region first team at shortstop and pitcher and was voted the region pitcher of the year. Siguenza was another dominant pitcher with a 0.58 ERA. Losing two standout pitchers will be tough on the Blue Devils this season. Sharpsville returns Bryan Stafford, Jake Bulick, Taylor Lenzi, Jalen Mockabee, Ross Llewellyn, Tanner Morris, Greg Popatak, Tyler Wansack and Mitch Fyffe this spring. Stafford, Bulick, Lenzi, Mockabee and Llewellyn are senior leaders for coach Mike Sikorski. Stafford (catcher) and Popatak (third base) are returning all-region first-team selections, while Mockabee (first base), Wansack (outfield) and Bulick (outfield) are returning second-team selections. Sharpsville has the offensive firepower to compete for the Region 2 title but developing a new pitching staff will be key. The Blue Devils are a team to keep an eye on this spring.

Schedule
April
3	Commodore Perry*	L, 1-11 5 innings
4	Lakeview	W, 12-7
5	at Hickory*	W, 20-12
8	Wilmington*	W, 4-3 8 innings
10	at Reynolds*	PPD
15	Sharon*	4
16	at Grove City
17	at West Middlesex*	4
22	at Mercer*	4
24	at Commodore Perry*	4
May
6	Reynolds*	4
8	at Sharon*	4
13	West Middlesex*	4
15	Mercer*	4
*Region 2 games

Softball
Coach (season): Rick Grandy (1st season)
2012 overall record: 15-3
2012 region record (place): 10-2 (champion)
2012 playoff results: Defeated Reynolds 8-2 in the District 10 Class A semifinals before losing to Saegertown 11-2 in the D-10 championship.
Top players lost: Hanley Spencer, Katie Hanley, Kristy Roberts, Taylor O’Conner, Molly Gill
Top returning players: McKenzie Popatak, Megan Davis, Rachel Harenchar, Madelyn Shuttleworth, Megan Whalen
Assistant coaches: Cory Sternthal, Kirk Messett, Keith Wansack, Kelley Thompson
Outlook: Sharpsville ran into powerhouse Saegertown in the District 10 Class A championship last season. The Blue Devils will have to replace several talented players to get back to the D-10 game this year. Hanley Spencer, Katie Hanley, Kristy Roberts, Taylor O’Conner and Molly Gill are gone to graduation. Gill (first base), Roberts (second team), O’Connor (third base), Hanley (outfield) and Spencer (pitcher) were all-region first-team selections as seniors. The Blue Devils have experienced players back, including McKenzie Popatak, Megan Davis, Rachel Harenchar, Madelyn Shuttleworth and Megan Whalen. Popatak is a first-team selection at catcher and was voted the region player of the year. Harenchar was voted to the all-region second team at designated player. Sharpsville will need to play strong defense until several players step up as offensive weapons. The Blue Devils have nine freshmen on the roster and inexperience could be an issue early on. If Sharpsville can develop chemistry as the season goes on, the Blue Devils will be a tough out in the District 10 Class A playoffs.

Schedule
April
3	Grove City	W, 12-11
4	at Saegertown	L, 4-16 5 innings
2012 playoff results: Defeated Fairview 13-6 in the District 10 Class AA quarterfinals before losing to Saegertown 2-1 in the semifinals.
Top players lost: Joe Tomko, Xavier Mosley, Jason Sypolt, Anthony Martwinski, Gino Merolillo
Top returning players: Nick Carlo, Josh Nichols, Vinnie Shaffer, Justin Stefanowicz, Cody Frazier, Michael Songer
Assistant coaches: Travis Martwinski, Gary Revale, Marty Gargano
Outlook: Sharon will be an interesting team this season with heavy graduation losses. The Tigers will have to overcome the departure of Joe Tomko, Xavier Mosley, Jason Sypolt, Anthony Martwinski and Gino Merolillo. Mosley and Tomko are first-team outfielders, while Martwinski (shortstop) and Merlillo (pitcher) are second-team selections. The Tigers will turn to Nick Carlo, Josh Nichols, Vinnie Shaffer, Justin Stefanowicz, Cody Frazier and Michael Songer to lead a young team. Nichols (catcher), Songer (first base) and Shaffer (pitcher) are returning second-team all-region selections. Sharon returns six varsity players with experience and has a strong freshman class. The Tigers are in a loaded region this season with plenty of Class AA teams looking to make a run at Saegertown. Sharon will need to fill in its graduation losses quickly in order to stay competitive in Region 2 and make a run to the District 10 Class AA playoffs.

Softball
Coach (season, record): Mike Bochert (3rd season, 15-19)
2012 overall record: 8-12
2012 region record (place): 1-5 (tied for third)
2012 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Diana Revale, Yonshale Powell
Top returning players: Mallory Torr, Kristina Jacoway, Gabby Gadola, Amelia Crawford, Taylor Moore, Abriana Dellibovi, Kayla Reardon, Kelsie McGranahan
Assistant coaches: Geno Rossi, Julie Norris
Outlook: Sharon has steadily improved under third-year coach Mike Bochert and the Tigers are looking to make the next step and finish above .500. Sharon has only two seniors back this year after losing Diana Revale and Yonshale Powell to graduation. Powell was a first-team all-region outfielder as a senior. The Tigers return Mallory Torr, Kristina Jacoway, Gabby Gadola, Amelia Crawford, Taylor Moore, Abriana Dellibovi, Kayla Reardon and Kelsie McGranahan to lead a young team. Dellibovi is a first-team designated player, while Gadola is a second-team pitcher and McGranahan is a second-team outfielder. Sharon could also receive contrbutions from new player Marissa Monnin, a senior. The Tigers went 13-1 over the summer in the Mercer County league and have developed confidence as a program. Sharon has speed and depth and will need to overcome its youth and inexperience to start the season. The Tigers might be one year away but teams shouldn’t sleep on them this season.

Seneca Bobcats
Baseball
Coach (season): Greg Radwan (1st season)
2012 overall record: 4-14
2012 region record (place): 1-7 (fifth)
2012 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top player lost: Bobby Lorman
Top returning players: Seth Magee, K.J. Winslow, Jake Wittman, Keith Strain
Assistant coach: Gary Hanes
Outlook: Seneca will look for success under new head coach Greg Radwan, a former Gannon standout. The Bobcats will have to replace Bobby Lorman, who hit .303 last year. Seneca has plenty of experience back in Seth Magee, K.J. Winslow, Jake Wittman and Keith Strain. Magee hit .327 last year and had a .426 on-base percentage. Winslow hit .306 with 8 RBIs last year and Wittman struck out 42 in 36 1/3 innings of work. Strain went 2-2 with 22 strikeouts in 22 innings. Freshman Jesse Magee could contribute right away for a Seneca team looking for a spark this year. The Bobcats have experience and leadership but struck out too much last year at the plate. Seneca also had a high walk ratio on the mound and will need to improve to slow down some of Erie County’s top offenses in region play. With a new coach and new mentality, the Bobcats are a work in progress. It may not happen right away but keep an eye on Seneca over the next few years.

Schedule

Softball
Coach (season): Mike Grove (8th season)
2012 overall record: 5-15
2012 region record (place): 4-14 (eighth)
2012 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Amanda Cavarretta, Bev Allen, Erica Biby
Top returning players: Jenna Wright, Meghan McChesney, Kaitlyn babe, Courtney Bender, Carrie Biebel, Sam Heverly, Alexa Snarski
Assistant coach: Tim Schweitzer
Outlook: Seneca is a brutal situation in Region 4. Not only is the region loaded with talented teams, it added Harbor Creek as well. The Bobcats are looking to rebuild and it won’t be easy with tough opponents in each region game. Amanda Cavarretta, Bev Allen and Erica Biby are key losses for Seneca. All three graduated and were important parts of last year’s team. The Bobcats will have some experience back to rely on. Jenna Wright, Meghan McChesney, Kaitlyn babe, Courtney Bender, Carrie Biebel, Sam Heverly and Alexa Snarski all return this season. McChesney was a first-team all-region designated player, while Babe was voted to the second team at third base. With a team of almost all sophomores and juniors, the Bobcats could be one year away from making a serious move. Seneca will work to develop its program this season and could do some damage in 2014.
