Outlook: It wasn’t hard to figure out from Week 1 last year that Corry’s offense centers on quarterback Scottie Frisina, the Region 5 player of the year. Frisina completed 126-of-223 passes for 2,010 yards with 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while also rushing for 608 yards and eight TDs. The Beavers run a spread offense with four or five wide receivers most of the time. No matter what defenses opposing teams used, Frisina seemed to always find the gaps. Frisina had five receivers with 18 catches or more in 2008. Craig Marti, the team’s leading receiver with 36 catches 675 yards and nine TDs, is back along with Cory Owens (26 catches, 313 yards, 2 TDs) and Mitchell Anderson (18 catches, 298

yards, 2 TDs). However, Corry did graduate Jordan Mosher who was second on the team with 27 catches for 526 yards and two touchdowns, and the No. 3 wide receiver Nicholas Upperman, who had 24 catches for 350 yards and seven TDs. On the rare occasion that the Beavers did go to their backfield, it was usually to Adam Zimmerman and Josh Smith. Zimmerman returns for his junior year after carrying the ball 34 times for 149 yards in ’08, while Smith graduated. Corry’s leading tackler Tyler Lutton graduated as well, but Zimmerman was second with 63 tackles. The Beavers loaded their schedule with quality non-region opponents and have a shot at winning the region. Since the region has only five teams, each region game is crucial. Corry knows how region games can be no matter what time of the year, as the Beavers’ Week 4 loss to Meadville cost them a playoff spot. With a creative, offensive-minded coach, and one of the most prolific passers in District 10 back for his senior year, the Beavers could surprise a few teams in Class AAA.
