Fans can vote for the Breakout Team of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Friday at 4:59 p.m. with the winner being featured in Sunday’s edition of the Erie Times-News. Fans are encouraged to submit nominations of teams by Tuesday night each week. Teams that have won the award this season are no longer eligible.

Linesville volleyball – The Lions went undefeated this season to claim the PIAA Class A championship. Linesville finished 25-0 in dual meets, including a Region 2 championship and a District 10 Class A title.
Maplewood volleyball – The Tigers weren’t expected to make a run like they did this fall. Maplewood made the playoffs, became the District 10 Class A runner-up and made its way to the PIAA semifinals. If it weren’t for rival Linesville, the Tigers could have made it to the PIAA championship.
Mercyhurst Prep boys soccer – The Lakers earned a return trip to the PIAA finals by beating Sewickley Academy 5-1 in dominant fashion Tuesday. Earlier, Mercyhurst claimed a 6-0 quarterfinal win over Karns City and a 3-2 first-round win over Seton-La Salle.
Sharpsville football – The Blue Devils continued their perfect season with a 48-0 win over Cambridge Springs in the District 10 Class A quarterfinals. Sharpsville is 10-0 this season and will take on Farrell on Friday in the D-10 semifinals.
West Middlesex football – The Big Reds qualified for the playoffs for the first time in several years and are making the most of it. West Middlesex knocked off previously unbeaten Youngsville 47-0 in the District 10 Class A quarterfinals.
East football – The Warriors played in their first playoff game on Friday and picked up their first playoff win in school history by beating Corry 27-16.
Strong Vincent football – The Colonels picked up their first playoff win since moving up to Class AAAA. Vincent routed Mifflin County 42-21 in a PIAA Class AAAA subregional and will look for another subregional win Saturday against State College.
