Erie Times-News Breakout Basketball Player of the Week nominees

Fans can vote for the Breakout Basketball Players of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. with the winner being featured later this week in the Erie Times-News. Players who have won the award this season are no longer eligible.

Boys
Andrew Niland, Fairview – The freshman had a breakout season and capped with two solid performances in the playoffs. Niland had 10 points in a 48-41 play-in win over Northwestern before scoring 11 in a 33-30 loss to Lakeview.
Joe Swanson, Girard – Swanson started the week with 18 points in a 44-37 win over Meadville before posting six in a 33-32 win over Grove City.
Quinn Thompson, General McLane – Thompson put together a dominating performance with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in a 49-37 win over Franklin.
Marcus Sonoga, Hickory - Sonoga drilled a 3-pointer with less than two seconds left to lift the Hornets to a 52-49 in over Central Tech.
Preston McMeans, Warren – The senior continued his fine season with 21 points in a 77-54 win over Sharon.
Kimon Roberson, VisionQuest – Roberson erupted for 25 points in a 71-50 win over Eisenhower.
Mac Hartman, Kennedy Catholic – Hartman scored 20 points to give the Golden Eagles a 62-45 win over Linesville.
Sam Corritore, Mercyhurst Prep – Had a breakout game with 14 points in a 57-15 win over Wilmington.
Cory Bailey, North East – Bailey took over Friday’s game with 19 points in a 57-15 win over Wilmington.
Theo Truitt, Saegertown – Truitt scored 17 points as the Panthers upset Sharpsville 48-33.
DeAndrye Henderson, Strong Vincent – Scored 17 points in a 63-36 rout of McDowell in the District 10 Class AAAA semifinals.

Girls
Jenna Krider, Linesville – Scored 18 points to lead the Lions to a 49-26 win over Commodore Perry.
Lisa Mifsud, Villa Maria – Dominated with 17 points, including three first-quarter 3-pointers.
Brooke King, Seneca – Had 19 points in a 51-46 win over Sharpsville.
Brooklyn Taylor, Greenville – Scored 12 points in a 26-23 win over Cambridge Springs.
Leah Hansen, General McLane – Scored 13 points, including several important baskets in the second half to lead the Lancers to a 37-34 win over Slippery Rock.
Macy Horvath, Hickory – Put together 14 points and 10 rebounds including a game-tying field goal in the final seconds to force overtime as the Hornettes edged Warren 54-43.

    Why would you nominate a player from a team that lost in playoffs without nominating someone from a team that won? What about Cody Gander from Lakeview who scored the game winning lay-up and subsequent free throws to seal the win for Lakeview? By the way…Lakeview had not won the first round since 2002.

      Concerned,
      When we looked at the Lakeview game we thought that several Lakeview players could have been nominated but they were all kind of on the same level and it might not have been fair to take one over the other. We will make sure to get one in there next week.
