Rocky Grove Orioles
Baseball
Coach (season, record): Bill Wilson (4th season, 12-35)
2011 overall record: 7-6
2011 region record (place): 5-1 (co-champion)
2011 playoff results: Lost 3-1 to Youngsville in the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: Geoff Sanner, Aaron Yarnell, Brandon Morrison
Top returning players: Curt Masterson, Breck Schneider, Scott Murray, Trevor Guthrie
Assistant coach: Blayne Gold
Outlook: Rocky Grove is a team to keep an eye on this season. The Orioles lost Geoff Sanner, Aaron Yarnell and Brandon Morrison to graduation but with three starting pitchers and two relievers back this spring, the Orioles could be tough on the mound. Coach Bill Wilson is expecting plenty of competition early on for playing time and starting spots. Wilson has a solid group in Curt Masterson, Breck Schneider, Scott Murray and Trevor Guthrie back to rely on for leadership this season. Robbie Adams, Shane McElhaney and Dylan Heller were solid hitters for the junior varsity last season and could make an impact on the varsity this year. The Orioles also have some solid freshmen coming up that could make for a bright future in Rocky Grove.

Softball
Coach (season, record): Carrie Armburger (2nd season, 9-7)
2011 overall record: 9-7
2011 region record (place): 6-6 (fourth)
2011 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 playoffs.
Top players lost: None
Top returning players: Shelby Latshaw, Nichole Bell, Katie Bell, Bria Bevier, Jillian Shull
Assistant coach: Susan Snyder
Outlook: Rocky Grove coach Carrie Armburger has high expectations for the Orioles this season. Armburger and the Orioles are calling this the “season of no excuses” after returning everyone from last year’s 9-7 season. Rocky Grove has standout Shelby Latshaw back on the mound along with her backup pitchers in Bria Bevier and Jillian Shull. Eden Rembold is back this spring after taking last year off to lead the offense and defense on the field. The Orioles went through some growing pains at the plate in 2011 but hat experience could vault them to the top of Region 1. The region always has tough teams, but Rocky Grove might have the most experienced team. The Orioles look like a playoff team coming into the season but how far they go will be determined by how quickly they come together as a team and use the experience they gained last year.
