Erie Times-News Breakout Athlete of the Week nominees

Fans can vote for the Breakout Baseball and Softball Players of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. with the winner being featured later this week in the Erie Times-News. Players who have won the award this season are no longer eligible. Fans are encouraged to e-mail nominations to sports@timesnews.com each week by 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Baseball
Kevin Yarabinec, Sharpsville – Had four hits, including a double and a two-run home run, and four RBIs in a 12-7 win over Hickory.
Collin Yake, Reynolds – Crushed an important three-run home run in a 4-3 win over Hickory.
Anthony Derrick, Wilmington – Hit an inside-the-park, two-run home run in a 3-1 win over Kennedy Catholic.
Geno Merolillo, Sharon – Had a one-out, walkoff single to drive in the winning run in a 5-4 win over West Middlesex.
Josh Doody, Grove City – Put together three hits in a 12-2 win over Commodore Perry.
Kellen Gursky, Reynolds – Had two home runs and a single in a 10-9 loss to Mercer.
Brandon Gamble, Lakeview – Drilled three hits, including a home run, in a 13-3 win over Cambridge Springs.
Ryan Schwab, Titusville – Ripped a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Rockets a 1-0 win over Mercyhurst Prep.
Tyler Lynch, Meadville – Had three hits and three RBIs in an 11-8 win over Franklin.
Mark Colella, West Middlesex – Crushed a two-run home run in an 8-6 win over Rocky Grove.
Kory Thomas, Warren – Had two hits and drove in four runs in an 11-1 win over Girard.
Trevor Bastow, Fort LeBoeuf - Drove in four runs on two hits and scored twice in a 10-3 win over Corry.
Kody Kondrlik, Cathedral Prep – Went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored, including a home run, in a 12-0 win over Central Tech. He also went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in a 7-0 win over Fort LeBoeuf.
Josh Niedermeyer, Northwestern – Drove in four runs on a two hits and scored twice in a 13-2 win over Youngsville.
Zack LaRocca, Fairview – Pitched eight innings and scored the winning run in a key 3-2 win over Northwestern.
Ethan Sowers, North East - Had two hits, drove in three runs and picked up the win on the mound in an 8-3 win over Youngsville.
Chad Kulka, General McLane – Tossed the first no-hitter in school history in a 7-0 win over Corry.
Derrick Post, Mercyhurst Prep – Continued his impressive season on the mound with a two-hit shutout against Fairview. The Lakers won 10-0 in six innings.
Elliot Mowris, Harbor Creek – Pitched a two-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over Iroquois. He had eight strikeouts in the win.
Alex Stevens, Girard – Had three hits, three runs scored and drove in two runs in a 12-11 win over Seneca.

Softball
Analise Whenry, Mercer – Drilled a walkoff RBI single in a 4-3 win over Sharon.
Diana Revale, Sharon – Had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs in an 11-0 win over Commodore Perry.
McKenzie Popatak, Sharpsville – Crushed a two-run walkoff double in a 5-4 win over Reynolds. She also had a two-run double earlier in the game. She also had a double and a triple in an 11-2 win over Kennedy Catholic. Popatak also had a game-tying home run in a 2-1 win over West Middlesex.
Jordyn Allen, West Middlesex – Had two hits and earned a win on six strikeouts in a 12-2 win over Mercer.
Megan Chess, Hickory – Hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Hornettes a 10-9 win over Franklin.
Paige Baker, Reynolds – Struck out 18 in a no-hitter as Reynolds beat Commodore Perry 13-0.
Shana Grosch, Titusville – Tossed a two-hit shutout in a 12-0 win over Cranberry.
Randalyn Miller, Franklin – Had a double and her first varsity home run in an 11-5 win over Grove City.
Shelby Latshaw, Rocky Grove – Tossed a two-hit shutout in a 9-0 win over Kennedy Catholic.
Amber Fox, Youngsville – Tossed a one-hitter, including 10 strikeouts, as the Eagles beat Eisenhower.
Alexa Bupp, Warren – Continued her strong season with four hits, including a home run, and five RBIs this past week. She also threw a one-hitter against Harbor Creek and a two-hitter against McDowell with 16 total strikeouts.
Shelby Proctor, Cochranton – Had three hits, including two doubles, two runs scored and drove in two runs in a 12-2 win over Conneaut Lake. She also had two hits and three runs scored in a 9-1 win over Conneaut Valley.
Emily Zaczkiewicz, Corry – Her two-run double completed an exciting sixth-inning comeback in a 3-2 win over powerhouse McDowell.
Ashley Samluk, McDowell – Drilled a two-run home run in a 3-2 loss to Corry.
Gabby Kennelley, Fort LeBoeuf – Ripped an RBI triple in the 10th inning to help the Bison beat Harbor Creek 7-5. She also drove in the tying run in the seventh inning.
Erica Suprynowicz, General McLane – Earned the win on the mound and drove in three runs in a 7-1 win over Girard.
Sahara Blair, Linesville - Crushed a two-run home run in the seventh inning to give the Lions an 8-7 win over Union City.
Jaricka Simmerman, Maplewood – Hammered a two-run home run in the seventh inning to give the Tigers a 5-3 upset over previously unbeaten Saegertown.
Erica Biby, Seneca – Had a two-run double in the sixth inning and scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning as the resurgent Bobcats beat Villa Maria 6-5.
Raven Rozantz, Fairview – Tossed a two-hit shutout over Iroquois. She had 14 strikeouts in the key win.
Katie Kirik, Union City – Had two hits, scored three runs and drove in three runs in a 10-4 win over Conneaut Valley.
Kristina Szczesny, Central Tech – Finished with four hits in a 14-4 win over East.
Sarah Lindvay, Iroquois – Went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in a 10-8 win over Harbor Creek.
Annie Hecht, North East - Had three hits in a 10-0 win over Eisenhower.

Track and Field
Boys
Daniel Jaskowak, Grove City – Won the 400, 1,600 and ran a leg in a winning relay in a close win over Hickory.
Clay Allen, West Middlesex – Took second in the 100 (11.11 seconds) and the 200 (22.46) at the prestigious Baldwin Invitational.
Johnathon Jacoway, Sharon – Won three events at the Baldwin Invitational, including the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches), the long jump (21-0) and set a school record in the triple jump at 45-21/4.
Clayton Stoyer, Reynolds – Had a solid day at the Baldwin Invitational with a first in the 300 hurdles (40.09), a second in the 110 hurdles (16.0) and a fifth in the long jump (20-1).
Jesse Ragon, Oil City – Won three events in a loss to Warren. He won the 110 hurdles, the 100 and the long jump.
Ryan Smathers, North East – Set a meet record in the 1,600 with a time of 4:19 while just missing the record in the 800 during the North East Invitational. He also ran on a winning relay team in the meet.
Dalton Zebrak, Iroquois – Won the 1,600 at the Baldwin Invitational.
Matt Bell, Hickory – Easily won the shot put and discus at the Baldwin Invitational.
Greg Miaczynski, Central Tech – Won the 110 and 300 hurdles at the North East Invitational.
Kyle McKeen, Northwestern – Took home the long jump and triple jump titles at the North East Invitational.

Girls
Marina Wareham, Kennedy Catholic – Won the 800, the 1,600 and the javelin in a loss to Reynolds.
Morgan Richards, Hickory – Set a school record in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 19 seconds in a win over Grove City. She also won the 1,600 and 3,200 races while helping a relay win.
Sabol Csatlos, Sharon - Won the javelin (117-10) at the Baldwin Invitational and set a school record in the discus (112-9) while finishing in third place.
Kristin Markiewicz, Harbor Creek - Won three events in a sweep of Girard and Seneca, She won the triple jump, the long jump and competed on the winning 400 relay team.
Eliza Lowe, Grove City – Won the 300 hurdles and took second in the 100 hurdles at the Baldwin Invitational.
Anna Chodubski, McDowell – Took second in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump at the Baldwin Invitational.
Paige Kassab, Meadville - Won the triple jump and took second in the high jump and fifth in the long jump at the Baldwin Invitational.
Taylor Pletz, Mercyhurst Prep – Won the 800 and 1,600 at the North East Invitational.
Cassie Swartzbaugh, Youngsville – Earned wins in the 100 and 300 hurdles, including a meet record in the 300 hurdles at the North East Invitational.
Kylie Shafer, North East – Won three events and took second in another at the North East Invitational. She won the 100 and ran on the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams . She also took second in the 200.
Amber Bacon, Union City – Had event wins in the javelin and the discus at the North East Invitational.

Spring athlete
Nick Ward, Cathedral Prep tennis – Made his way to the District 10 Class AAA singles championship on Saturday. He will compete on Monday against Brian Rubin of McDowell.
Chad Ferguson, Greenville tennis - Played well Saturday to reach the District 10 Class AA singles championship on Monday.
Shane Burns, Warren tennis – Rolled through the District 10 Class AA singles field to reach Monday’s championship.
Josh Mack, Cathedral Prep lacrosse – Tied a school single-game scoring record with seven goals in a 14-7 win over St. Mary’s. Mack leads the Ramblers with 25 goals this season.
Jake Carniewski, McDowell volleyball - Dished out 49 assists in a thrilling five-set win over Conneaut Valley.
Geoff VanWinkle, Cambridge Springs volleyball – Had 10 kills in a sweep of Fort LeBoeuf.
Travis Pietkiewicz, Fort LeBoeuf volleyball – Finished with 20 assists in a loss to Cambridge Springs.
Nolan Varee, Conneaut Valley volleyball – Collected 18 kills in a five-set loss to McDowell.
Alex Minnis, Meadville volleyball - Had 36 digs, 16 assists and 13 kills in a sweep of Cochranton.
