Erie Times-News Breakout Athlete of the Week nominees

Fans can vote for the Breakout Baseball and Softball Players of the Week on the top right corner of the page. Voting continues through Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. with the winner being featured later this week in the Erie Times-News. Players who have won the award this season are no longer eligible. Fans are encouraged to e-mail nominations to sports@timesnews.com each week by 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Baseball
Travis Brumbaugh, Wilmington – Struck out 13 and allowed five hits in a 10-0 shutout win over Jamestown.
Tyler Wansack, Sharpsville – Came through twice in the seventh inning of a thrilling 6-5 win over Mercer. With the Blue Devils trailing 5-1, Wansack led off the seventh with a solo home run before driving in the winning run with a bases loaded walk later in the inning. He also doubled in the win.
Mike Ginther, West Middlesex - The lefty tossed a one-hitter, including nine strikeouts, as the Big Reds beat Jamestown 10-0.
Corey Lynn, Meadville – Lynn is still coming back from injury but made the most of a bases loaded opportunity against powerhouse Grove City. Lynn ripped a three-run double in a 4-2 win over the Eagles.
Luke Hipple, Titusville – Had two doubles and a home run in an 11-2 win over Eisenhower.
Chris Kahle, Franklin – Went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs in a 10-6 win over Oil City.
Alex McCann, Conneaut Lake – Finished 6-for-8 this past week, including a home run, four runs scored and eight RBIs. He also threw a three-hit shutout against Conneaut Valley with 11 strikeouts.
Todd Goss, Harbor Creek – Tossed his first career no-hitter in a 9-0 win over Central Tech. He finished with 11 strikeouts and two walks.
Zack LaRocca, Fairview – Threw a three-hit shutout in a 6-0 win over North East. He finished with nine strikeouts and one walk.
Josh Ponsoll, General McLane – Had three hits and scored two runs in a 12-0 win over Girard. He also had a home run and drove in three runs while also picking up the win on the mound in an 11-5 win over Warren.
Matt Hansen, McDowell - Made a terrific defensive play and threw out a runner trying to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to end a 4-3 win over Cathedral Prep.
Matt Jaskolka, Warren – Struck out 17 in a no-hitter as the Dragons beat Harbor Creek 3-0.
Mike Piotrowski, Cathedral Prep – Tossed a one-hitter in a 2-0 win over General McLane. He finished with eight strikeouts and had carried a no-hitter through five innings.
Austin Slater, Lakeview – Crushed two home runs and finished with three hits and seven RBIs in a 19-4 win over Maplewood.
Brian Kelly, Central Tech – Finished 4-for-4, including one triple, in a 16-1 win over East.
Derrick Post, Mercyhurst Prep – Continued his impressive season by throwing a shutout against Youngsville. The Lakers won 3-0 and Post has now allowed just two earned runs over the last 451/3 innings.
Ryan Hoelke, North East – Had three hits and two RBIs in a 5-1 win over Seneca.
Shane Russell, Union City – Went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in a 13-3 win over Lakeview.
Mike Lockhart, Fort LeBoeuf – Drove in four runs, including a two-run home run, in an 8-0 win over Central Tech.

Softball
Sara McFarland, West Middlesex – Had two hits, including a three-run triple in a 10-3 win over Kennedy Catholic.
Haley Gearhart, Reynolds – Struck out 14 in a four-hitter and had two hits at the plate to lead the Raiders to a 7-2 win over Sharon.
Erynn Williams, Jamestown – Had two doubles and drove in four runs while limiting Hickory to two hits on the mound in a 16-1 win.
Megan Chess, Hickory – The freshman ripped a two-out, two-run double in the seventh inning to give the Hornettes a 4-3 comeback win.
Shelby Latshaw, Rocky Grove - She finished with eight strikeouts in a no-hitter as the Orioles beat Commodore Perry 14-0. She also had a one-hitter and hit a grand slam in a 19-0 win over Farrell.
Amy Clark, Titusville – Finished 4-for-4 with a double, a home run and drove in three runs in a 10-0 win over Sharon. She went 10-for-11 this past week with two home runs, three doubles and nine RBIs.
Shelby Proctor, Cochranton – Had four hits, including two doubles, in a thrilling 9-8 win over Linesville.
Noelle Wienczkowski, Union City – Crushed a two-run, game-winning home run in a 6-5 win over Maplewood. She also picked up the win on the mound. Wienczkowski later drove in five runs on two hits in a 16-8 win over Cambridge Springs.
Raven Rozantz, Fairview – Continued her outstanding junior season with a three-hit shutout of Northwestern. She also struck out 12 and allowed one walk in the 1-0 win. She also had two hits, two RBIs and threw another shutout in an 11-0 win over Villa Maria. Rozantz then struck out six in a 2-0 shutout of Edgewood.
Kalie Rzodkiewicz, Harbor Creek – Struck out 11 to pick up a 4-2 win over McDowell.
Rachel Miller, North East - Tossed a three-hitter in a 10-0 win over General McLane. She also threw a three-hitter in a 1-0 win over Seneca.
Cassie Pietkiewicz, Fort LeBoeuf – Was a triple shy of the cycle while scoring five runs and driving in two in a 14-4 win over Strong Vincent.
Alexa Bupp, Warren – Struck out 12 in a 12-1 win over Central Tech. She also had three hits, including a home run. Bupp also tossed a one-hitter in a 10-0 win over Mercyhurst Prep. She struck out 12 in the win.
Erica Suprynowicz, General McLane – Tossed a three-hitter and had two hits and an RBI in a 4-1 win over Eisenhower.
Katie Watts, Lakeview - Had four hits, four runs and drove in two runs in a 13-3 win over Union City.
Judi Lewis, Youngsville - Went 5-for-5 with four RBIs in a 17-6 win over Villa Maria.

Track and field
Boys
Matt Bell, Hickory – Set school records in the shot put (61-4) and discus (172-10) at the Baldwin Invitational.
Jeremy Jancso, West Middlesex – Set a Mercer County Invitational record by clearing 6 feet, 8 inches in the high jump. He also won the long jump at 22 feet, 31/2 inches.
Daniel Jaskowak, Grove City – Set a meet record in the 800 at 1:55.29 and was part of a meet-record 3,200 relay (8:02.65) at the Mercer County Invitational.
Jesse Ragon, Oil City - Won four events to lead the Oilers to a win over Youngsville. he won the 110 hurdles, the 100, the long jump and the 300 hurdles.
Joe Oduho, Cathedral Prep – Won the 100, 200 and ran a leg in the 400 relay in a rivalry win over McDowell.
Shawn Wiler, Corry – Won the 800 and 1,600 while also running in the winning 3,200 relay in a win over Meadville.
Kyle McKeen, Northwestern - Set a meet record in the triple jump at the Erie County Classic. McKeen recorded a record-jump of 45 feet, 1 inch.
Ryan Smathers, North East – Set meet records in the 800 and 1,600 at the Erie County Classic. He also ran in the winning 1,600 relay team. Smathers ran times of 1:57.87 in the 800 and 4:19.91 in the 1,600 to set records.

Girls
Lauren Lubarski, Hickory – Broke a 37-year old school record in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 8 inches in the Baldwin Invitational. She also set a school record in the javelin with a throw of 138-11 at the Mercer County Invitational.
Marina Wareham, Kennedy Catholic - Set a meet record in the 400 at 58.44 seconds at the Mercer County Invitational.
Mariah Burns, Wilmington – Set a Mercer County Invitational record in the triple jump at 37 feet, 11/4 inches.
Rebekah Petty, Greenville - Cleared 11 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault to set a Mercer County Invitational record. She also won the 100 and was part of the winning 400 relay team.
Abby Jones, Franklin – Won the long jump, triple jump and high jump as the Knights beat Titusville.
Anna Chodubski, McDowell - Won the long jump, the triple jump and the 100 hurdles in a win over Villa Maria.
Shamieia Roberts, Villa Maria – Finished with four event wins in a loss to McDowell. She won the 100 and 200 and ran legs in the 400 and 1,600 relays.
Paige Kassab, Meadville - Won four events in a win over Corry. Kassab took home the 100 hurdles, long jump, high jump and triple jump.
Jaynee Corbett, Corry - Set stadium records in the shot put (39-91/4) and discus (115-9) while also winning the javelin (108-0) in a loss to Meadville.
Amber Bacon, Union City – Set a meet record at the Erie County Classic by throwing the javelin 124 feet, 1 inch.

Spring athlete
Noah Jones, Rocky Grove volleyball – Had 13 kills and nine blocks in a four-set win over Farrell.
Alex Brzozowski, Cathedral Prep tennis – Completed a terrific District 10 season by winning the Class AAA doubles title with Mario Nicolia.
Thomas Pellegrino, Warren tennis – Teamed up with Matt Sandberg to win the D-10 Class AA doubles title before picking up a crucial win in No. 2 singles to help the Dragons win the D-10 AA team title.
Brian Dailey, Cathedral Prep lacrosse – Scored three goals in the Ramblers’ 8-4 win over McDowell.
Jake Carniewski, McDowell volleyball – Had 25 assists in a sweep of Cambridge Springs before adding 21 assists in a three-set loss to Saegertown.
Tyler Minnis, Meadville volleyball – Collected 33 kills, 28 assists and 18 digs in a five-set win over Maplewood.
Mike Shirey, Cochranton volleyball – Had 12 kills in a sweep of Fort LeBoeuf.
