Outlook: Cathedral Prep is coming off one of its best seasons in recent history. The Ramblers dominated District 10 to win the Class AAAA championship before a thrilling run to the state semifinals. Prep returns everyone from last year’s team and could be a threat to make another deep playoff run. The Ramblers return their starting five of Sheldon Zablotny, Conor Colpoys, Delton Williams, Chris Francis and Matt Harris. Prep also brings back key reserves off the bench, including Matt Hess, Dan Blazek and Jeremy Lynch. Zablotny was named the District 10 Player of the Year last winter after an outstanding junior season. He has 874 career points and is well on his way to reaching the 1,000 career point milestone. Zablotny averaged 17.4 points per game last fall, while Colpoys scored 10.1 points and pulled down 4.9 rebounds per game. Colpoys is part of a terrific inside duo with Williams, a Michigan State football recruit. Williams led Prep with 5.3 rebounds per game as a junior. Colpoys (6 feet, 3 inches) and Williams (6-2) overcame their size disadvantages last winter with big-time rebounding and boxing out. Francis and Harris provide plenty of pinpoint shooting and ballhandling on the outside, while Hess, Blazek and Lynch are solid contributors off the bench.

Prep opens its season in Canada before a rivalry game right away on Dec. 10 against Strong Vincent. The Colonels moved down to Class AAA in the offseason but will still square off twice with the Ramblers. Prep also hosts East, who the Ramblers will play twice, before a quick two-game set with Fort LeBoeuf and Harbor Creek. January will be a brutal month for Prep. The Ramblers will get new region opponent Central Tech twice, rival McDowell, the Burger King Classic, a road game at St. Francis in New York and Class AAA powers Franklin General McLane, Strong Vincent and Warren. With only three teams in Class AAAA this season, the games with Central Tech and McDowell become even more important.
