Conneaut Eagles
Boys
Coach (season, record): Bob Leupold (7th season, 80-61)
2011-12 overall record: Conneaut Lake 9-13, Conneaut Valley 11-11, Linesville 11-12
2011-12 region record (place): Conneaut Lake 3-5 (fourth), Conneaut Valley 1-7 (fifth), Linesville 4-4 (tied for second)
2011-12 playoff results: Conneaut Lake and Conneaut Valley did not make the District 10 Class A playoffs. Linesville lost to Kennedy Catholic 62-45 in the District 10 Class A quarterfinals.
Top players lost: Nolan Varee, Jared Schaef
Top returning players: Stephen Martini, Sid Smith, Noah Uplinger, Tyler Bartlett
Assistant coach: Phil Smith
Outlook: Conneaut will face a unique challenge this season. With three schools coming together, rivals will need to learn how to play together. Conneaut Valley coach Bob Leupold will run the program and will have plenty of players to choose from this winter. His biggest problem will be building chemistry between players from three different schools. Nolan Varee and Jared Schaef were all-region players to graduate from the three schools. Conneaut will have to start fresh with returning standouts from all three schools. Seniors Stephen Martini, Sid Smith, Noah Uplinger and Tyler Bartlett could step into starting roles right away after having big seasons last winter. Uplinger was an all-region first-team selection from Linesville, while Bartlett was a second-team pick from Conneaut Lake. Martini, a senior point guard, was voted to the second team from Linesville last winter. Sophomore Chris Richardson is a 6-4 power forward that could step into a key inside role this winter along with athletic freshman Hunter Merritt. Class AAA Conneaut will be in a region with only Class A and AA teams and could see success right away. The Eagles will face a few tests right away in the Meadville tournament and only one of their first nine games at home. Conneaut’s game at Girard on Dec. 22 could be an interesting indicator on where the Eagles stand in the Class AAA landscape.

Assistant coaches: Steve Mickle, Rich Jones, Megan Storck
Outlook: Conneaut will be one of the most intriguing Class AAA girls teams this season. The Eagles are a consolidated program between Conneaut Lake, Conneaut Valley and Linesville. Conneaut Valley and Linesville had plenty of success last season and return a strong group. Conneaut lost Amber Litwiler, Emily Steigerwald, Kelly Boyce, McKenzie Hughes, Lexi Hughes, Racheal Hazen and Sarah Frawley to graduation. Litwiler and Steigerwald were voted to the all-region first team last winter, while Boyce and Kenzie Hughes were second-teamers. The Eagles are under direction from former Linesville coach Bill Stevenson, who has a bevy of talented players to showcase this year. Challen Litwiler (Linesville) and Kristen Baker (Conneaut Valley) are returning all-region first-team picks form last year, while Jenn Krider (Linesville) is a returning second-team selection. Seniors Mallory Reynolds and Hailey Lowery could be big-time contributors along with juniors Kimmy Litwin and Libby Clement. Sophomores Brooke Phelps and Lindsey Shidlemantle could also see significant playing time as well. Conneaut built some chemistry in the summer and could be a dark horse team this winter. All eyes will be on Franklin, Mercyhurst Prep and Villa Maria in Class AAA this winter but Conneaut could grow into a strong contender in District 10.
