Corry Beavers
Boys
Coach (season, record): Chad Sutton (4th season, 15-51)
2011-12 overall record: 3-19
2011-12 region record (place): 0-14 (eighth)
2011-12 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AAA playoffs.
Top players lost: Jacques Rougeau, Devin Taydus, Mitchell Burrows
Top returning players: Ryan Sheets, Josh Schrecengost, Brody Wood
Assistant coaches: Mike Schrecengost, Mark Chase
Outlook: Corry coach Chad Sutton has the tough task of building a program in a brutal region. The Beavers have some hope for the future, though. Corry has a strong set of sophomores and juniors back this year and could use the growing pains of this winter to turn things around next year. The Beavers will have to replace four starters, including the graduation of Jacques Rougeau, Devin Taydus and Mitchell Burrows. Ryan Sheets, a senior, is back along with juniors Josh Schrecengost and and Brody Wood. Corry could also receive big contributions from Jon Haenel, Tyler Volz, Connor Combs and Jordan Sabat. Corry has a tough schedule and the Beavers’ success could depend on how quickly the new starters acclimate to their new roles.

Girls
Coach (season, record): Sarah Grab (5th season, 43-47)
2011-12 overall record: 4-18
2011-12 region record (place): 1-13 (eighth)
2011-12 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AAA playoffs.
Top player lost: Miranda Cummings
Top returning players: Morgan Haibach, Alisha Yoder, Hannah Kondrlik, Chloe Miller, Darla Brown
Assistant coach: Kyle Jewell
Outlook: Corry could be an interesting team to keep an eye on this season. The Beavers have depth and strong senior leadership. Corry only lost Miranda Cummings to graduation. She averaged nine points and three assists per game and was an emotional leader from the point guard position. Her defense will also be missed as she would usually guard each opponent’s top player. Corry returns Morgan Haibach, Alisha Yoder, Hannah Kondrlik, Chloe Miller and Darla Brown this season, while sophomores Abby Gluvna and Emily Zaczkiewicz could contribute right away. Corry’s depth will be key this season but the biggest factor in the Beavers’ success will be consistency. Corry needs to limit its turnovers this year and play solid defense. The Beavers could contend in their region or be at the bottom if they play inconsistent basketball.
