Fairview Tigers
Boys
Coach (season, record): Keith Nies (13th season, 177-102)
2011-12 overall record: 12-12
2011-12 region record (place): 5-5 (tied for third)
2011-12 playoff results: Defeated Northwestern 48-41 in a District 10 Class AA play-in game before losing to Lakeview 33-30 in a quarterfinal game.
Top players lost: Jordan Lichtsinn, Mickey Ferrare
Top returning players: Andy Niland, Ben Kocan, Shannon Jackson, Dan Carey, Andrew Gibson
Assistant coaches: Greg Hoffman, Chris Moore, Niko Simon, Jeremy Lightner
Outlook: Fairview still managed to make the playoffs last winter despite a “rebuilding” season. The Tigers are one year away from being heavy favorites to win the District 10 Class AA championship but they will also be a tough out this winter. With Class A powerhouse West Middlesex moving up to AA, Fairview and the rest of Erie County may be chasing the Big Reds for the D-10 title. The Tigers are still young and will need to replace the leadership of Jordan Lichtsinn and Mickey Ferrare. Lichtsinn was an all-region selection while both were solid leaders. Lichtsinn also scored consistently inside and both players’ rebounding will be sorely missed. Fairview returns three starters in sophomores Andy Niland and Ben Kocan along with junior Shannon Jackson. All three were solid players last winter, while seniors Dan Carey and Andrew Gibson are back as well. The five could receive plenty of help from the younger players. Fairview’s junior varsity team went 18-4 last winter and could contribute right away. Marc Corbin, Dan Dewey, Scott Klemm, Stephen Rinderle, Andrew Levin and Kenny McGrain are among the players that could step up this winter. Fairview has a young and talented team but rebounding could be the biggest issue with a lack of height. The Tigers should contend for D-10, once again, but they have to develop some forwards to capture the D-10 title.

Girls
Coach (season, record): Lance Brown (6th season, 58-58)
2011-12 overall record: 6-15
2011-12 region record (place): 2-12 (seventh)
2011-12 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AAA playoffs.
Top players lost: Corrine Pawlowski, Kelsey Everhart
Top returning players: Stephanie Acevedo, Kathryn Susko, Katie Sundberg, Nia Clark, Holly Linkoski, Rachel Loper, Erin Gleason
Assistant coaches: Laura Szkotnicki, Kellee Beresik
Outlook: Fairview is back in Class AA and could be a surprise team this season. The Tigers have to replace Corrinne Pawlowski and Kelsey Everhart after the two graduated in the spring. Fairview returns four starters in Katie Sundberg, Holly Linkoski, Rachel Loper and Nia Clark. The four have built chemistry over the past two years and could be one of the more experienced groups in Region 4. They are joined by Stephanie Acevedo, Kathryn Susko and Erin Gleason. Along with the returning players are Andrea McGee, Abby Widger, Roni Lipinski and Sara Nicewonger, who could contribute as well this season. Grace Bitticker and Sara Stroup are two freshmen to keep an eye on as well. Fairview had to deal with Class AAA powerhouses over the past two years but the Tigers are back with the Class AA Erie County teams. The Tigers have the experience to contend in the region and D-10 but their ability to develop and compete in close games could decide how this season goes.
