Farrell Steelers
Boys
Coach (season, record): Roland Shannonhouse (10th season, 161-69)
2011-12 overall record: 10-12
2011-12 region record (place): 7-9 (sixth)
2011-12 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AAA playoffs.
Top players lost: Ramon Pierce, Vernon Stewart, Lamont Peterson
Top returning players: Ike Jones, Tyrone Archie, Dewayne Burns, Jason Page, Jamel Brown
Assistant coaches: Marco Miller, Bob Stewart, Tim Odem
Outlook: Farrell has an uncharacteristically average season last winter. The Steelers missed the playoffs but could bounce back this year. Farrell returns three starters in Ike Jones, Jason Page and Tyrone Archie. The three will lead a young Farrell team but the Steelers will have to replace Ramon Pierce, Vernon Stewart and Lamont Peterson. Farrell has several players that could step into a starting role right away. Dewayne Burns and Jamel Brown are back, while freshman Malik Miller and sophomore Clifton McNair could contribute as well. Coach Roland Shannonhouse mentioned the Steelers may start a freshman this year or even more as the year progresses. Farrell has speed and athleticism but chemistry and defense will be key for the Steelers this winter.

2011-12 region record (place): 8-2 (second)

Top players lost: Marissa Carry, Jalisa Archie
Top returning players: Johntae Scott, Mykayla Washington, Oriana Smith, Malaka Goudy, Jarissa Sharper, Whitney Murray, Janee Avery, Bria Gambill
Outlook: Farrell had big aspirations last winter but an injury to star Marissa Carry set the Steelers back. Carry, a 1,000-point scorer, has graduated along with Jalisa Archie but Farrell brings back a strong group. Archie was voted to the all-region first team last year, while Carry was voted to the second team. Johntae Scott, Mykayla Washington, Oriana Smith, Malaka Goudy, Jarissa Sharper, Whitney Murray, Janee Avery and Bria Gambill are back this year. Scott, Washington, Murray and Gambill are returning starters, while sophomores Tyler Lampkins and Jarissa Sharper could contribute right away. Coach Ed Tursoky is looking for the young Steelers to keep building on their experience and come together as a team. Farrell returns a playoff-caliber group and is looking to compete for the region and district titles, once again.
