Maplewood Tigers
Boys
Coach (season, record): Jeremy Peterson (3rd season, 12-32)
2011-12 overall record: 7-15
2011-12 region record (place): 4-4 (third)
2011-12 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Michael Davis, Camron Kramer
Top returning players: Justin Dahl, Logan Battin, Josh Lake
Assistant coach: Dave Gjovik
Outlook: Maplewood has steadily improved under third-year coach Jeremy Peterson and will look to reach the .500 mark this year. The Tigers won five games in Peterson’s first year and seven last winter. Maplewood will have to replace all-region second-team selections Michael Davis and Camron Kramer. The two leave big holes in the starting lineup and their production needs to be replaced. Senior guards Justin Dahl and Josh Lake are back along with senior forward Logan Battin. Dahl and Battin started last year while all three seniors will see a lot of minutes this winter. Alex Bakus and Miller Peters could be big-time contributors as well. The Tigers have plenty of speed this year but experience could be a tough obstacle to overcome. As the season goes on, if Maplewood can overcome the experience and youth factors, the Tigers could surprise a few teams along the way.

Girls
Coach (season, record): Ben Mangus (3rd season, 9-35)
2011-12 overall record: 3-19
2011-12 region record (place): 3-11 (seventh)
2011-12 playoff results: Did not qualify for the District 10 Class AA playoffs.
Top players lost: Mary Fultz, Ashley Myers
Top returning players: Emily Merritt, Ashley Miller, Elizabeth Miller, Madalyn Nicols, Taylor Smith
Assistant coaches: Kevin Turner, Kelly Onderko
Outlook: Maplewood is looking to remain as healthy as it can this year. The Tigers aren’t off to a good start as returning player Ashley Myers is out for the year with an injury. The Tigers also lost Mary Fultz to graduation and will need to replace both players in camp. Senior point guard Emily Merritt is back along with returning starters Ashley Miller and Elizabeth Miller. Both are senior forwards back for one final season, while senior Taylor Smith and sophomore Madalyn Nichols return as well. An indirect advantage coming from injuries last year is the experience more players gained. Maplewood had 11 players letter and will have depth this year as a result. Seniors Kendra Turner, Kaylee Krepps and Molly Bernoski could contribute along with sophomore Brooke Battin. Maplewood has shifted to a competitive region and confidence could be the Tigers’ biggest issue. After so many injuries last year, staying healthy and competing each night will be the keys to Maplewood’s success.
