The PIAA will review the Class AAA girls basketball bracket at its board of directors meeting this week. Executive director Bob Lombardi mentioned at the latest District 10 meeting that he would bring a possible change to the bracket to the board at this week’s meeting. His item is near the end of the agenda and will likely not be addressed until Friday morning.
District 10 had its three PIAA Class AAA girls basketball spots reduced to two in the new two-year cycle. At the time of the PIAA calculations, D-10 had 13 Class AAA teams. After Conneaut consolidated, D-10 had 14 AAA teams and their share increased to three spots. However, for D-10 to get a third spot, another district would have to lose one. Lombardi is proposing that District 7 lose one of its seven Class AAA spots. Lombardi mentioned that a change in the bracket would have to go through three readings but there is a chance the PIAA fast tracks the change before March if the board chooses to do so.
