Outlook: Meadville will be looking for some playmakers to step up this fall as coach Mike Feleppa enters his second season. The Bulldogs graduated Artrel Foster, Tyler Minnis, Taylor Dart and Trevor Martin in the spring. Minnis ran the offense at quarterback, throwing for 465 yards and five touchdowns, while Foster ran for 700 yards and 12 touchdowns and caught eight passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Foster was voted to the all-region first team at defensive back and second team as a running back. Dart is a big loss on the line as a second-team offensive lineman, while Minnis was a second-team defensive back. Martin was also an all-region selection on the first team at all-purpose. With plenty of leadership and production gone, the Bulldogs will lean on an experienced returning group, including Ryan Harkness, Jake Jageman, Alec Lloyd, Tim Bolden and Josh Trimble.
Harkness is an all-region first-team running back and ran for 1,130 yards and 13 touchdowns on 206 carries as a junior. Harkness also led Meadville with 71 tackles, while Jageman had 57. Bolden is also back after rushing for 392 yards and one touchdown last year, and he caught three passes for 77 yards. Lloyd is back to anchor the line as a second-team lineman for the Bulldogs. Meadville will open the season at Northwestern and Slippery Rock before its home opener in Week 3 against East. The Bulldogs had a year to get used to a few system under Feleppa and barely missed the playoffs. If Meadville can find a leader at quarterback and fill in some other gaps, the Bulldogs could be an interesting team to watch in Region 5 this season.
