• Most of the Week 2 football scrimmages will take place tonight. The best part about that news? The regular season is one week away. Much like the third and fourth NFL preseason games, starting jobs and playing time could be earned and lost in the second scrimmage of the season. • We will have plenty of coverage of the upcoming football season for fans to enjoy. Each Friday night, make sure to come to the Varsity blog for a live chat throughout the night. We will update every game involving District 10 teams and we are the only source to give scores from every game on time each week. We will have photo galleries, boxscores and briefs throughout the season and a pick ‘em contest that will be launched soon. Football season is always one of my favorite times of year. There’s nothing like arriving to a high school game with a marching band playing, parents selling 50-50s and concessions, players on the field warming up and just the general buzz felt before a game begins. Here’s a music video from the song Boys of Fall by Kenny Chesney. It definitely encapsulates what football means to these players in their careers. Are there any players or games you are looking forward to? Leave a comment and let me know. I can’t wait for the rivalry games around the Erie area, including Cathedral Prep-McDowell. Not only is it one of the most ferocious rivalries around but both teams have blazing speed in their defensive backfields. Prep has two Division I recruits in Felix Manus-Schell and Marlon Tyree, while McDowell’s Tyree Spearman, Jamie Szymczak and Jake Tarasovitch will be fun to watch.

• Make sure to check out the video previews that videographer Matt Mead is putting together on every Erie County football team. We’ve posted 11 videos so far and each gives fans an idea of what to expect from each team.

• If you want to watch a discussion of high school football, check out the Sunday Sportsblitz on WSEE at 11:30 a.m. I will stumble over, I mean talk about, what to expect this season as I try to avoid a Steve Carrell moment in Bruce Almighty.

• Make sure to join me on Tuesday at noon as I host a live chat about the upcoming high school football season. The live blog will take place on the Varsity blog and last about an hour unless the discussion cruises along and readers want to keep going.
