The Fairview boys tennis team saw its state championship hopes end with a 4-1 loss to longtime power Wyomissing this morning in the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals at Hershey Racquet Club.
Ben Westcott had the only win for the Tigers as he pulled out a three-set victory in No. 3 singles. Fairview’s No. 1 doubles team of Austin Fiedler and Tris Tuttle also went three sets before falling. (Match scores were not immediately available.)
However, a Wyomissing lineup featuring a pair of high-caliber singles players was too much for Fairview, which dropped to 17-3.
“You fight the feeling of being satisfied getting here,” Fairview coach Rick Sertz said after the dual. “For a lot of our guys, it was their first experience of being here. A lot of our past teams had players that had been here before. But I’m real pleased across board with the way we fought.”
Fairview now will turn its focus to next week’s PIAA singles and doubles tournaments in Hershey. Jon Oskin will represent the Tigers in singles, while Westcott and Fiedler will compete in doubles.
