Varsity Kickoff Countdown is a daily series on the Varsity blog. It’s 25 days until the opening night of the high school football season on Friday, Aug. 29:

Number of the day: 25

That’s the number of touchdowns quarterback Kolten Hoffman passed for during West Middlesex’s 2006 season.

Hoffman totaled 2,401 yards through the air that year. The senior helped the Big Reds beat Sharpsville 35-13 in the District 10 Class A final and then led them to the PIAA championship game, where they lost 56-14 to District 4 power Southern Columbia.

Hoffman graduated as the first District 10 quarterback with 5,000 career passing yards (5,060). He’s now fourth on that all-time list behind Damion Terry of Cathedral Prep (7,266), Mark Kulinski of Oil City (6,045) and Scottie Frisina of Corry (5,078).
