Give blood, celebrate American Heart Month

This month, we celebrate love with hearts of the paper and candy variety, but why not include the blood-pumping, life-sustaining kind?

February is American Heart Month, and what better way to celebrate this most vital of organs then by donating the blood that runs through it.

The Community Blood Bank has two great promotions coming up for donors.

Valentine’s Day Sweets

The first 75 donors on Valentine’s Day will receive a cupcake or cake pop courtesy of local bakery Icing on the Lake.

Donors throughout the week will be entered to win a $100 gift certificate to Icing on the Lake.

Healthy hearts

The Community Blood Bank has teamed up with the Glenwood Park YMCA and the Walgreens at 38th and Peach streets to host a blood drive from Feb. 20 to 24.

Throughout the drive, a lucky donor each day will be chosen to receive a prize valued at $175. Included in the prize are a 30-day family membership to the Glenwood Park YMCA and a Kinetic Health Monitor Pack provided by Walgreens.

All blood donations must be made at the Community Blood Bank, located at 2646 Peach Street in Erie.

The blood bank is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
